Our School Day

An even-keeled day!  What a blessed event.  I think that this blog is my secret weapon.  Anytime things started to go awry, I just told myself what a fabulous blog entry it would make and I would begin to mentally "type."  Toward the end of the day, when I realized that nothing had gone terribly wrong, I began to relive other trainwrecks we've had (too numerous to recapture) and try to compose them into some humorous anecdote.  What a great exercise...

Our normal Monday begins with morning chores after breakfast, then kitchen chores. (groan)  Afterward, the kids get out some busy work (art, lego building, knitting, whatever) and we read.  Bible (we are covering The Power of a Praying Kid) & History.  This year we are studying the Civil War.  Last week, we finished up a Dear America book on Patsy the freed girl - awesome!  And now we are reading the very flowery diary of my husband's ancestor.   So interesting to study from many perspectives.  The kids are very interested and always sad when it's time to move on to independent study.  (Maybe I should go to college with them and read them all their textbooks while they knit and play legos.)

Then, onto Math-u-see, Daily Life Journal and some form of Language Arts (spelling, handwriting, grammar, etc)

I usually read something entertaining to them during lunch.  Now, we are finishing up Amy Carmichael.  Unfortunately, no time today since we were running a little behind.  I needed to get them all fed and then onto Ella's preschool dance class downtown.  Bailey & Livy had to finish their math & journals on the way.  After Ella's class we went outside to the park and ran around for about 30 min.  It wasn't too hot but they were definitely worn out and hungry by the time we got home.  I wish Ava would still nap, but no dice.

I fixed them a nutella & banana milkshake when we got home (OMGOSH sooo delicious!) Then they folded their clothes (three out of four of the kids are responsible for their own folding) and watched Fetch with Ruff Ruffman.  I LOVE that show for them.  Except for the millions, billions and beegillions of years ago stuff that I have to deprogram afterward.  Oh, and also I'm a closet Arthur fan.  I find my self staring bleary-eyed at the Tube whenever it's on.  Yeah, and giggling too.  What's wrong with me?

The kids were scheduled to do 20min of French (Rosetta Stone) but, umm, how do you say lazy mom en Francais?  Too busy making dinner.  Didn't really want to hear endless repetitions of "Il est quatre heure" in the background.  Oh well, they'll always have Paris.

Probably better stop for now.  This is way too cathardic and I'm sure someone else needs the computer.

More later...there always is.

Sounds like a great day to me, Mom.
I might just have to pull out our smoothie maker now.
