Pig Roast

Pig Roast

I need to back up.  I forgot a very important date!  It happened on July 29.  Michele and Randy celebrated their 20th anniversary!!  Wow.  On the one hand, I can hardly remember when Randy was NOT in the family.  On the other, this is my baby sister – 18 years younger than I who has now been married 20 years.  Anyway, Congratulations are in order and so here they are.  Happy Anniversary Randy and Michele.

As I looked out my bedroom window this morning, I could see that one of the young bulls across the road was in trouble.  I couldn’t tell what was wrong, but I sensed he needed help.  I called the owner, but by the time he got here, the bull had died.  Not sure what it could have been or how long he had been suffering.  If I hadn’t looked down from upstairs we would never have seen him.

Today in church, we stood to sing the closing song.  “Nana,” Carissa whispered from behind me.  “Your dress is unzipped.”

I was wearing a dress with a jacket over it.  “How could Carissa see that I had forgotten to zip up my dress to the top,” I wondered?  But I could remember that I had zipped it all up.  I looked back at Carissa with that look of “What are you talking about?”  She said it again.

I felt behind me and discovered that my entire zipper had come apart all the way to the bottom.  My “light and lovelies” were showing.  I quickly removed myself from the sanctuary and made a quick trip home.  If she hadn’t said anything, I would have been walking around afterwards with my wardrobe mal-function.  Thank you, Carissa.

The skies looked very threatening as I came out of church.  The heavy rains predicted for last night hadn’t quite made it to Vassalboro, but they looked close.  No one dared to ask if we should cancel the pig roast.  After packing up some stuff we headed out with the sounds of thunder off in the distance.  Soon we could see the lightning all around us and the heavens opened up making visibility an issue.  How disappointing.  Dana had been cooking the pig for about 8 hours… we’d have to make do.

Good thing we didn’t cancel.  Within a half hour the rains let up and eventually the skies turned blue and sunny.  The afternoon was saved and we had a great time.  Their backyard is such a kid/adult friendly place.

Jen and Ed went on a church campout over the weekend – setting up in the rain and taking down in the rain – but enjoying nice weather in between.  We spoke with her tonight and she is glad it’s over.  Her idea of camping is either a cottage or a mobile home… she’s not a tenting kinda girl.  Surprising, isn’t it?
