Sarah, Please Go Home Am I the only one that thinks this? It sure seems like it. Most of my otherwise rational friends are so excited about Sarah that they are forgiving her for abandoning her responsibilities to her family at a time when they are facing two major upheavals. I don’t get it. Is God making an exception to His standards because we are in exceptional times? Does this scenario give us a better platform for promoting full time motherhood? Is God using Sarah’s choices to bring glory to Himself, and if so, does that give us license to endorse her candidacy? Will the culture learn from this why it’s important for mothers to be mothers? There is much to admire about Sarah as a wife and mother. There is much to admire about Sarah as a candidate. But when you combine the two Sarah’s it creates an oxymoron for me. The TV pundits cannot understand why anyone would attack Sarah as a working mom or imply that she has had a contribution to the moral failing of her daughter. They want Sarah to be the one to show us that a wife and mother can “have it all” and live happily ever after. “No one criticizes Barak for being a working dad,” they insist. “People just don’t want to see a strong woman succeed,” they conclude. But did the political distractions/demands in Sarah’s life inadvertantly make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts in Bristol and Levi’s lives? Something caused this to fly under the family radar until it was too late. Was this a consequence of Sarah’s choices? No one wants us to ask these questions. “It has nothing to do with her ability to serve in public office” we are being told vehemently. “Do NOT question Sarah’s choices.” “People see different things when they see women and when they see men,” one of the FOX News gals cried out. Ladies, this is not by accident. God has put this in our hearts. So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Gen 1:27 In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. Gen 5:1-2 Don’t fall into the trap that demands that there be no difference between men and women. Those of us who love our daughters don’t want to the culture or the church to go down this road. It leads to broken marriages, total disrespect, unwed mothers, singleness, military combat, and other undesirable consequences for our precious young women. Being a woman or a man is an honorable position. Each requires different responsibilities and obligations. Because we are created in the image of God we are called to a very high standard of conduct and personal growth - complete uncompromising obedience and commitment to His Word and His work. Sarah, please go home. Your little guy will need so much of you if he is to reach his full potential. It will not come easily to him, but it can come, and no one will want it more for him than you. Sarah, please go home. Your daughter will need so much of you in the days ahead as she prepares for a wedding and the birth of her baby. There is so much you will need to teach her. Sarah, please go home. No matter how convinced you are that there are people “out there” who can substitute for you when the demands of your job require it, it’s not true. There is no substitute for the sacred trust that God has given you. Please let sweet Bristol’s indiscretion be your wake up call before it is too late. I’m Susan Blount and I approve this message. |
