My First Everyday Things...
This is something that intrigues me. I have been reading some really neat posts on this and thought I would join in... You can find out more here.
"...For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." Philippians 4:11
"If you want one thing too much it's likely to be a disappointment. The healthy way is to learn to like the everyday things, like soft beds and buttermilk..." -- Augustus McCrae-"Lonesome Dove"
You probably would have never guessed that one of my most simple things I treasure is not a thing at all - well, it is but it is more than a thing... It is my kitchen. There are lots of little things in that kitchen that I could write about such as my biscuit cutter, bread cutting knife, tea kettle, mixer, big mixing bowls and cooking pots, etc... but the kitchen is more than the sum of it's gadgets and machinery. It is a gathering place for family. It is a refuge for me when I am stressed. It is a place from which I can nurture my family. It is a place to seek to fill a very basic physical need of hunger and a very spiritual need of just talking to my Father. I school the kids there. As I work they work. Dan teases me that if I had a television that could be tuned 24/7 to Food Network in the kitchen I would NEVER leave. LOL I even blog from there most days. My computer sits on the counter as I work and acts as a music source with praise and worship or jazz favorites so I can dance and sing as I work. It also serves as a cookbook for me and a place to write down recipes and thoughts as I work. I spend most of my day in my kitchen and I love it there. My Daddy and my Meemaw approached it much the same way and maybe that is where I learned it. It may need to be remodeled and refurbished but that never stops me from hanging out there. As a matter of fact I am constanting giving it my love and attention to make it prettier or homier. I adore being in my kitchen and that is as simple as it comes for me. It is the heart of my home and the hub for almost all of our activity and I would not trade that for the world.

Jun. 30, 2006 - how true ---
my husband teases me about my kitchen too, he says if something were to fall on it, apple juice would sqeeze out.
but many times the kitchen is the cause of my stress not my refuge from it......
