Here is an invaluable resource for those of you who enjoy intellectual discussions. This is also for any of you with teens--especially teens getting ready for college. Get free access to recorded messages from some of the greatest contemporary Christian apologists at http://www.veritas.org . You may recognize some of the names including Michael Behe, Philip Johnson, William Dembski, Alister McGrath, Fritz Schaefer, Guillermo Gonzalez, Jonathan Wells, Os Guinness, Marvin Olasky, and Ravi Zacharias. (Several of the aforementioned individuals were featured in "Expelled.")
The Veritas Forum engages university students and faculty in discussions about life's hardest questions and the relevance of Jesus Christ to all of life. It was started at Harvard in the late 1990's by a group of students, faculty, and ministers as a response to the spiritual emptiness on campus. This sense of disconnection was particularly striking in contrast with Harvard’s spiritual history. An early motto, "In Christi gloriam" (For the glory of Christ), was later changed to "Veritas Christo et ecclesiae" (Truth for Christ and the Church), and then became merely "Veritas" (Truth) - unattached, it seemed, to anything in particular. Today, the college classroom rarely allows students to engage questions of meaning, purpose or faith. In ignoring such questions, universities fail to create a coherent worldview for their students, making it difficult for many to integrate their academic knowledge with their lives. Veritas steps into this void, encouraging students to pursue Truth, connect their academic and vocational life to Christ, and emerge with clarity and hopeful vision for our world.
To view a complete list of downloadable media freely available on the Veritas Forum website, go to http://www.veritas.org/media/topics . Topics include: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Christianity, authority of scripture, ethics, evil, evolution, education, literature, movies and film, music, science, government, politics, and many more. The Veritas Forum also publishes books by some of academia's brightest scholars which address issues of culture and faith while providing thoughtful, Christian engagement with world-shaping ideas in order to restore the centrality of Christ to all academic and vocational pursuits. Titles include "Finding God at Harvard" by Kelly Monroe Kullberg and "The Dawkins Delusion" by Alister McGrath.
