Doris the cat purred happily and curled up in the sunny window. She shivered a little when she thought about how long she'd lived in the streets as a skinny, stray cat. But that was then. Now she knew she would never again choose to wander about chasing mice like she used to. It would be fancy cat food for her from now on, served in a fancy glass dish. As old Mrs. Winn patted her soft coat, Doris stretched and hoped that life would always be this good!
Before: And that is the story of how I saved my little sister from drowning. After: My sisters' cries - they ever penetrate my brain, and for as long as I live I shall never forget the day she was swept from my hand and carried down the raging floods, prostrate and unable to move against the strong currents. I was such a fool to have held her so close to the water! But her eyes; they made my heart feel light. She trusted in me, and now I am glad I faced the risk to save her!
Thank you Mrs. Marlow for your wonderful lessons! I've enjoyed them most superbly, and I know they have helped and will help me as I continue on in my writing. Thanks!

Note to all: This shall not only be my last lesson, but probably my last entry too before my family will be taking the summer off from blogging. (Did I say the summer? This could be my last day I shall ever blog at all.) I hope you have enjoyed reading my writing and lessons! Fare thee well!
Boring Nutshell Summary: Josh and his friends ride the rapids in a leaky raft and survive (whilst escaping natives in South America).
"Run!" Josh wildly raced toward the beach, being careful to avoid the leaning palm branches. Young Cale came behind him, frightfully glancing back at the swarming natives and tripping among the loose vines that covered the moist ground.
"Marie! Watch out!" A light-footed native raised his spear and took aim at the fleeing missionary, but he missed her heals by a hair. "Look out yourself, Josh, " she called. Josh immediately stumbled on a protruding root and rolled to the ground, Cale falling over him. He quickly set his feet and threw the boy before him.
Marie was at the raft when they emerged form the jungle that surrounded the river, urging Daniel, who had stayed with the boat for them, to start rowing. "Hurry, guys!" The sparkling water raged against the little green raft, sending it spinning down the river at an alarming speed.
"Hey, wait for us!" Cale frantically wailed, waving his arms. The cries of the natives were not far behind, and Josh had to think of something to buy them some time. He snapped his fingers. "My lunch!" Reaching into his camo-pack he pulled out a foil bag and tore it open, dumping the dried contents into his hands. "Cale, go ahead and try to catch Marie."
"I can't run that fast!"
"She will have thought of something already to stop the raft, but I need you to get to safety." Josh ripped his sleeve and struck a match to the cloth and squinted at Cale, who stood motionless beside him. "But, but-" he sputtered. "What about you??"
"Go, Cale! Don't worry about me." Josh gave the boy a push and he ran off down the riverbank. He then grabbed some smooth, wet rocks from the riverbed and coated them with dry sand, and reaching for a stick he tied the smouldering cloth to its end. The colorful natives burst from the trees, one after another after another, and stopped short in front of him. There was silence in the crowd, and the feathered leader tilted his head to one side. Perfect, Josh thought as he waved the torch back and forth. He burnt the sand from one rock and sprinkled the charred specks on his dried food, like a seasoning, and held it before the native man's face. The man scooped up a piece and chewed it, and to Josh's surprise he took it from his mouth and gave it to the man next to him who ate it whole. The natives began jostling each other as they tried to snatch the food from his hand. Josh stepped back, but the leader, sensing his resistance, wooted to the others and drew a knife.
"Oh, perfect," Josh muttered and sprinted for dear life down the riverbank. "Aaaahhhhh!" He splashed into the swelling cold water and was swiftly engulfed in the rapids, but at once he felt a tug on the collar of his shirt and was yanked out forcibly onto a hard deck.
"Daniel, get us out of here! I've got him."
Josh opened his eyes. Marie's demanding form stood over him with her face taunt and a look of worry in her eyes. "Cale, plug that hole!" She commanded over her shoulder as she dabbed at Josh's face with a towel.
"Marie, I've got an arrow in my hat!" The little boy wailed. "And if I plug one hole, it'll all just come in from another one." He was right. Water flooded into the boat uncontrollably, and it was all Daniel could do to keep it from tipping.
"Um, I could use a little help here, Josh..." was his first plea. Josh waded over to him and grasped the oars just as Cale suddenly cried out, "We're all gonna die!!"
The rapids were pushing the raft into a cluster of sharp rocks and broken logs, but what was even more depressing was the sound and plumes of mist of a lengthily waterfall before them. "Grab the rocks!" Marie threw herself around a boulder and hung tightly to the boat with her legs. Cale did the same. Then a shout came from the opposite side of the river.
"Hey kids! In a bit of trouble, I suppose?"

Lutan slammed the heavy iron door and bolted it shut. That should keep those preachers in for a while! He thought smugly to himself. Feeling quite reassured, he found a comfortable corner nearby and sat down for a few hours rest.
The sound of joyful singing drifted into his dreams not long after; a peaceful and heart-warming song, but abruptly Lutan was awoken by a rumbling under him. The whole jail shook as if to pieces, and the chains rattled til they came right off the locks. The thick doors flew open easily, and there was a clatter of iron clasps falling to the floor behind them. Shocked, he jumped to his feet and peered into the spacious room. Empty! Suddenly realizing what had happened, Lutan clutched the hilt of his dagger and drew it toward his heaving chest. They are gone! And my job a total failure, he gasped. What is my life worth now? He swallowed hard. The cold dagger pricked his skin, and taking a deep breath he prepared to plunged it into his heart. But a shout came from the prison room, and he hesitated.
"Stop! Do not kill yourself! We are all still here!" One of the preachers, Paul, emerged out of the shadows and stood before the flabbergasted jailer. "We are here," he repeated calmly. "You- you..." Lutan stuttered, squinting at the tall man. Trembling, he dropped to his knees. "What must- must I do to be saved?"
I know I promised before I would post my book report for the Shakespeare Stealer today, but I am running short of time. I know, I know, I'm a procrastinator, but what can I say? I'll be sure to post about it next week - if I survive this one. I will not be blogging as often as I have before, because I have new ideas and activities I'd like to work on.

Lesson 12 assignment:
"Batter-up! We haven't got all day!" Tom shouted.
"Stop yelling," Katie said. She grabbed the bat and scowled at her brother. He scowled back.
"No girls," Sean piped up from the pitcher's mound.
"What do you care? She's not on your team," Tom snapped. Sean glared at Katie for a moment, then shrugged. "Suit yourself. But I'm not going easy on her just 'cause she's a girl."
"Who's asking you to?" Katie said. "play ball!"
I finished reading the Return of the King just a few days ago, and within the next day I read another book, called The Shakespeare Stealer. My mom agreed I could write a synopsis for the Lord of the Rings, since the book is over 1000 pages long, and for the short, 200 page Shakespeare Stealer, a full book report. But I will write my book report for The Shakespeare Stealer in my entry next week. For fun, I'm going to start writing nutshell summaries as I read more on the books I finish, along with the book report, to practice my skill in them.
Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: An evil lord seeks to overthrow mankind, and is in desperate lookout for his lost, yet very powerful Ring, to which his life is tied. He does not know, but his Ring is secretly in the hands of Frodo the hobbit, who is on a quest the destroy it, and with it Sauron, and save the Shire.
The story starts out on Bilbo Baggin's one hundred and eleventh birthday, where he gives a welcoming speech to all his fellow friends. But a strange thing occurs when the old Baggins suddenly disappears, leaving the hobbits dumbstruck and flabbergasted. But not Gandalf the Wizard, who knows the power of the One Ring to make its bearer invisible. He found Bilbo packing for another long journey, one he is for sure he wont be coming back from. Reluctantly Bilbo leaves his precious ring, and goes off into the night without anyone but Gandalf knowing. Presently Frodo arrives from the party wondering what happened to his uncle, and the old wizard tells him of his departure, and of Frodo's inheritance of Bag End, and also his ring.
When finding out Bilbo's ring was the One Ring of Power not long afterwards, created by the evil lord Sauron himself to do evil against Middle Earth, Gandalf quickly tells Frodo the details and sends him off to Bree with Sam, for he had important matters to attend to and would meet them there. Stumbling upon Merry and Pippin, two mischief makers who are determined to accompany them, Frodo and Sam head their way through the Old Forest and Barrow Downs, and on toward Bree. (In the movie it skips the part where the four hobbits meet Tom Bombadil after an incident in the Barrow Downs.)
At the Prancing Pony Inn, surprisingly they find Gandalf was not there. A ranger from the West, called Strider, leads the hobbits on to Rivendell in Gandalf's stead. The Black Riders were ever on their tail, and stabbed Frodo the ring-bearer with an evil blade, but Elrond, the Lord of the Elves of Rivendell, was able to heal him.
While in the Elven city, the hobbits found Gandalf, and they learned that Bilbo was there too. During their stay Elrond held a council between Elves, men, and free folk (such as dwarves), and also including Gandalf and Frodo and Bilbo, discussing the Ring. They finally decided on Frodo and eight other companions to set out from Rivendell to destroy the Ring, which can only be in the very fires of Mount Doom in Mordor.
That is where most of the real journey starts, so you best pick up a copy yourself if you ever want the whole story. From Rivendell the Fellowship traveled alongside the Misty Mountains to Moria, a deep dwarven mine, in which it took them three days to cross underground. Gandalf fell after defeating a Balrog, and so the broken Fellowship had to continue on without the good old wizard. From there they went on till finally reaching the woods of Lothlorien, home to the Elven Lady of Light. The company received token's and gifts of fellowship, and the Elves cloaked them in their own clothing. By boat they swiftly rode down Anduin, and just up from the river Frodo and Sam parted from the rest and went on. Merry and Pippin, on the other hand, were captured by Saruman's orcs from Isengard. The rest of the company: Strider (Aragorn), Boromir from Gondor (who died in trying to save the halflings from the orcs), Legolas from Mirkwood, and Gimli the Dwarf, chase after the orcs in pursuit of Merry and Pippin in the lands of Rohan.
They find out that Merry and Pippin were met by Gandalf (alive now, it seems) who turned them over to Treebeard, an Ent of Fangorn. From there Gandalf takes the three to Edoras and meet Theoden, King of Rohan. And then from there they go to Helms Deep, fight a battle, defeat Saruman (a puppet of Sauron), and run into a group of Dunedain men not unlike Aragorn from the North who accompany them into the Paths of the Dead while Theoden rides to Gondor with a few thousand strong to fight the orcs from Mordor. Merry at the time rides then with the King and Lady Eowyn (disguised as Durnhelm), and Pippin, after being very foolish, goes with Gandalf to Minas Tirith.
Now concerning Frodo and Sam, they cross the jagged rocks of Emyn Muil from the parting of the Fellowship and the Dead Marshes with Gollum (the former owner of the Ring before Bilbo) as their guide. They could not possibly get through the Black Gate, so Gollum takes the hobbits around through Ithilien to Cirith Ungol. They meet with Faramir, brother of Boromir now long dead, who warms the of the passes above Minas Morgul and replenishes their food and stock. Gollum leads them up the straight stairs to a tunnel, where his intentions are to let Shelob, a great spider, deal with them and then grab his precious. But Sam keeps the creature from coming anywhere near his master, but was not fast enough to stop Shelob from stabbing Frodo. Thinking he is dead, Sam takes the Ring to destroy by himself. But then suddenly a troop of orcs come along and take limp Frodo up to their guard tower, and Sam soon learns from eavesdropping that he isn't dead. Knowing this, he barges in to the tower only to find dead orcs everywhere from a recent fight over Frodo's mithril shirt. Sam rescues his master and they continue to to march slowly into the plains of Gorgoroth in Mordor.
Back to Gondor... Theoden arrives in Pelennor Fields and marches against the swarming armies of Sauron, aiding Gondor in that war. Faramir risked his life in trying to retake Osgiliath from the Enemy for his father Denethor, the stupid Steward of Gondor (sorry if that might have offended anyone), since there was no King. And then Aragorn comes with armies of the Dead and his Dunedain kinsmen and finishes off the evil men from the East and South. Denethor kills himself, and almost feverish Faramir with him, if it were not for Pippin, who ran for Gandalf, and Beregond, a Captain of the Guard. Eowyn, also with Merry, finish off the King of the Ring Wraiths and his flying steed, but are seriously wounded in doing so, and Theoden is killed. And so after the Battle of Pelennor Fields, Aragorn, who is said to be the future king, heals Merry and Eowyn with athelas and restores Faramir from his deathly fever.
Then with seven thousand strong of Gondorians and the Rohirrim, Elessar (Aragorn), King Eomer of Rohan the nephew of Theoden, Legolas and Gimli, and Pippin and Gandalf march upon Sauron's gates to draw out his armies for Frodo. As they do this, Frodo and Sam see all of the orcs moving out toward Isenmouthe to the Black Gate for war. The hobbits move as quickly as they can in the Morgai and scale Orodruin, otherwise known as Mount Doom. Frodo at first refuses to give up the Ring, and he claims it for himself and puts it on. But Gollum just then came up behind them and attacked Frodo, biting his finger off and taking the Ring. But he stepped back to far in his excitment and fell into the lava and flames of the volcano. If it were not for that scrawny creature, Middle Earth would have been lost.
Sauron was destoryed, and all his armies took flight before Aragorn and his men. Gandalf found Frodo and Sam and took them back to Ithilien on the backs of the Great Eagles, where they were refreshed. Aragorn was crowned King, and Arwen Undomiel, Elrond's daughter, became his queen, and Eomer then returned to Rohan with his sister Eowyn, but she went back and married Faramir, now Prince of Ithilien. The four hobbits went to Rivendell once again to see Elrond and Bilbo, and Gandalf finally left for good. Legolas and Gimli explored caves and forests together, and so alone the halflings came to the Shire. But all was not good there.
Saurman dug up their homes and sent thugs and ruffians to keep all hobbits prisoner. But Merry and Pippin soon took charge and chased out the evil men, and Sam replanted all the trees and gassy fields with dirt the Fair Lady gave to him in Lorien. And Frodo let Saruman live, but Grima Wormtongue (once a man of Rohan who turned the King's mind) stabbed the old wizard and the Hobbits shot him down.
And so everything went back to normal, and Frodo left for the Grey Havens with Bilbo and Elrond, where Gandalf met them with the Lady Galadriel with a boat ready to set off for Valinor... THE END :)
Unfortunately it seems this "short synopsis" turned into a long "book report"...

Hallo! Now, for lesson ten I have already posted a few chapters of my book, Truth Seeker, on Luthien - the unrevised version, by the way. The new version I wont give out just yet, but the beginning of my new prologue I have posted in my last entry for lesson nine.
I've noticed something that I thought would be important to say. In the download worksheet pages, the summary for Tolkien's book The Hobbit is not the main plot of the book at all. Tolkien, The Hobbit: Bilbo Baggins, a far-wandering hobbit, discovers the One Ring of Power and brings it home. Actually, Bilbo really set out to help the dwarves reclaim their home and treasures in the Lonely Mountain from the evil dragon Smaug. That's it. Bilbo just happened to stumble upon a strange ring in a cave, but its in the book The Lord of the Rings that the One Ring becomes of much importance. The main reason Tolkien wrote that sequel to The Hobbit was that readers enjoyed the little folk and wanted another story about them. So for my first Nutshell I'll rewrite the summary for The Hobbit: 1.)Tolkien, The Hobbit: Bilbo Baggins sets out to help the dwarves reclaim their home and treasures in the Lonely Mountain from the evil dragon Smaug. 2.) Lewis, Narnia, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: Four children stumble upon a magical land within a wardrobe where an evil Witch ruled. With the help of talking animals they overthrow the fake queen and restore peace to Narnia.
As for my book, I'm not so far as to know exactly what will happen yet. Forgive me, I would have, if I hadn't been so greatly inspired as to rewrite it all again.
Luthien Enelya - Arya - Truth Seeker
Hallo! I'm afraid I skipped a week or two from doing this....whoops! Well here is lesson 9:
1.) "Its here! It arrived today." Brian ran for the door and jerked it open. "This for you, kid?" The deliveryman thrust a heavy, oddly shaped package into Brian's hands.
2.) "Come back here with my horse!" Jack shouted. The outlaw laughed. "Come and catch him, if you can."
3.) "Will they come back?" Tina whispered. She looked at her brother for an answer. "I don't know," Peter said. "I hope not."
4.) Samantha folded her arms across her chest, squinted, and snapped her gum - daring the teacher to scold her.
5.) Sara awoke and leapt from her bed. She ran to the window, threw open the curtains, and gasped.
6.) It all started with Zach - like it usually does. I mean, he's my best friend (and friends are hard to come by in the middle of outer space, so I'm not too particular), but sometimes he can be a real pain.
7.) Jamie loved spiders. Especially the big, hairy ones.
8.) The double suns of Epsilon 5 rose, blood-red, over the jagged mountains, casting an eerie shadow behind the ship.
9.) What - Mary asked herself - was the point of trying to be good, when nobody really cared about her?
Note: Number 7 is really not a very attracting beginning. I actually think the before sentence was a little better. It just needs more action or dialogue to it :)
Before: One sunny day Michael and Kira went to the beach and discovered a lifeboat washed up on shore.
After: Dialogue - "Come, Michael!" Kira called, gesturing widely with her arms toward the beach. " You will not believe this." Michael jogged up a sand dune and slid off the other side, his eyes fixed on Kira, who stood a few paces before him. Glancing past her he spotted four canoes washed up on shore. "Wha-?" A worried look came over Kira's face. "We have to tell Grandpapa!"
Another interesting beginning: Well, well, well - what do we have here! Ahira chuckled to herself, staring down upon the sea shore, arms crossed, upon an enormous boulder protruding from the sand. Two young children playing on the beach, what a surprise! and just within reach...
This is a beginning I thought up for my prologue from Truth Seeker:
“Ugh! Let go of me!” Kiyona beat her fists on the muscular back of her captor, upside-down, kicking her legs wildly. “Put me down!” she gasped. She slipped off her captor’s shoulders unexpectedly and was forced down in the dirt while another cloaked man bound her arms smartly to her sides. He then threw Kiyona up into the saddle of a large, black beast on which an additional invader was waiting. Catching her in his arms, he slammed his heals against the hell-borne creature, rendering it to rear up upon its hind legs squealing before dashing into deep undergrowth of the silent forest. “No, no - Elohhiiiiimmm!”
Hallo! Today I am going to work on the "FUN" writing test, so hold on tight, 'cause its going to be a bumpy ride!
1) Without looking back, name the 5 elements of a good story. Um, Character, setting, problem, plot, solution
2) Choose a book and pick out the 5 elements of the story. (Don't forget to name the book. And you can't use the one you've already done!) Book: The Candlestone, from the Dragons in our Midst series Character: Billy (William) Bannister, an anthrozil (part human, part dragon) Setting: In Dr. Conner's underground laboratory Problem: His best friend Bonnie Silver was tricked by Dr. Conner, her father, and trapped in a gem called a candlestone with the evil dragon slayer Devin. Plot: Somehow Billy has to enter the candlestone and free her and himself from the gem without Devin, who was also trapped. Solution: With the help of a young genius, Ashley Stalworth, and her intelligent inventions, Billy enters the stone and finds Bonnie as well as many knights from ages past, including a splendid chap named Sir Barlow. They finally escape, but the evil slayer ventured out after them in the form of a pixelated dragon, whom Billy fights with the sword Excalibur and destroys him.
3) OK. I'm going to list some physical and personality traits of a character (I won't say if it's a girl or a boy. That's your decision). You take those traits and turn them into a nicely written paragraph (a character sketch). You decide if it's a hero or bad guy. Name the character and give him/her some life! Don't just put the traits in a long, boring sentence.
Physical: hazel eyes; thin lips and sparkling teeth; ears stick out a little bit; short, curly red hair that sticks up all over the place; sunburns easily.
Personality: loyal; patient with friends, but unforgiving with enemies; truthful most of the time but afraid of getting in trouble so an occasional lie slips out; insecure and wants friends; talks too much; very creative.
Saphir Goldenvine is a young, fairy-like creature with two hazel eyes as big as bowling balls on her fair, white face. Her long, slender ears stick out from her curly red head, as the loops often bounce with her quick motions. Through her thin lips not always comes out the truth, for though her people oppose it strongly, she loves to wonder past the borders into the human world, but is afraid to tell anyone. No one ever has befriended her, for she talks too much and is not secure with her words and actions, though she is quite loyal and patient. Since her pale skin and delicate wings burn easily, she had invented a curing lotion made of berry juice, pollen, and herbs located not around her home, but past the limitations of her nation; and it proved very useful to her family, who did not have a clue where she found her ingredients. With her creative fingers she made the lily-umbrella and the leaf boat, and other little things she enjoyed exercising secretly by herself in the pond.
4) Now I'm going to write some little scenes and you have to guess what feeling my character is showing. You may use your chart of character feelings if you need to. I'll be taking all my examples from that chart. Good luck!
4A) When Andrew opened the door, his mouth dropped open. His eyes opened wide and he gasped. What in the world? he thought. A spider the size of his hand skittered toward him. Andrew jumped back and clapped a hand over his mouth. Shocked and scared
4B)Not another one, Sarah said to herself as the teacher passed out the test. It's so easy. She yawned and propped her head in her hand. Why can't he give me a test that challenges me? Sarah rubbed her eyes and slouched. With a sigh, she picked up her pencil and began scribbling in her answers. Bored and tired.
4C) Tina's heart pounded against the inside of her chest as she balanced on the edge of the cliff. Eyes wide, she glanced down at the turquoise water 40 feet below. Her whole body trembled. Her breath came in small gasps. I can do this! she told herself. Hands shaking, she closed her eyes, plugged her nose, and leaped from the cliff. Frightened
5) There are 3 pictures to choose from. Choose one, copy it onto your blog, and take a "word picture" of it with your writing camera. Don't just list describing words but put some thought into it. Be creative! Most of all, I want to be able to "see" this picture when I read your paragraph. I chose:
The full moon shone brightly in the dark blue sky, casting all else into shadow. A silhouette stood motionless against the light, slouching upon his black horse with a cowboy hat tilted slightly to one side. He was watching, waiting, for something or someone; yet all that was heard or seen was the the gentle sway of the plants and foliage amidst the hooves of his beast.

Hullo again, everyone. Today I don't have a book report to do yet, but I have finished Lesson Four, called "Character Sketch". It talks about how to get to know your characters, and I have written a paragraph each about both of my main characters, brother and sister:
Luke, son of William, is a young man of 17 years, born to a poor peasant family in the outskirts of a small town. He has an older brother and two younger siblings, and they work and farm for the money that barely puts food on the table. He has somewhat long, wavy ash blonde hair, and deep blue eyes. His appearance is muscular, and he is very responsible and hard working. He does his best at everything, and cares for and protects his family and the people around him who may need his help. What he hates are the men under the order of the evil king, lord Faux, and those who try to put harm to his friends and family. He has a quick temper that gets the better of him, and sometimes he pushes himself too hard, and ends up in a mess. He loves adventures and the outdoors, and thinks eternally on what would be beyond those far away mountains of what he has heard ever so much about from his father.
Lily, only daughter of William, is a young lady of 13 years of age. She lives on a farm in the country with her three brothers and parents on the outskirts of a small town. Her very long, waist length, copper-brown hair often gets in her way, yet she knows from experience how to hold it back and has a will not to cut it. She has large, green-blue eyes and soft white skin, and always keeps her fingers moving. She is adventurous and energetic, and her enormous curiosity frequently gets her in trouble. Kindness and obedience envelop her, though she has a tend to ask numerous questions.
There you have it! As I continue on though in my book, these character sketches may change a little. I hope you enjoy who they are, and comment me please of what you think of them. Thanks!

(Important Post Script: I know all of you are expecting me to begin again on my Match Girl story, but I am afraid I have to postpone it till after my "Truth Seeker" book is done. I have planed to post that book now on my first blog, Luthien, as a friends read only. Thank you!)
Hallo my dear friends! I have yet another Book Report and Writing Lesson for you to enjoy yourself on. This time my book report is on Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. One thing I really thought was interesting to read is their attitude, especially Mrs. Bennet's; how she frets about almost anything. In her wish for her husband to wait on Mr. Bingley in the beginning of the book, when she begs him again and again, she cries out often, "Oh, you have no compassion for my poor nerves", or, "Ah! you do not know what I suffer" as an excuse. It would be funny to have a mother like that!
But anyways, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have five daughters, from the eldest, Miss Jane Bennet, Miss Elizabeth Bennet, Miss Mary Bennet, Miss Catherine (Kitty) Bennet, and Miss Lydia Bennet. Jane is very clam and sweet, and controls her emotions and temper very well. Elizabeth is much active and loves to run often, and is not so calm in her temper as her sister. Mary is very quiet and stays indoors most of the time alone with her books or instrument. Kitty and Lydia are wild and uncontrolled, and they spend their time with the all officers, or at balls and parties. The book is mainly about Elizabeth and her not-so-secret admirer Fitzwilliam Darcy. The first time they meet at a ball, she thinks him arrogant and conceited as everyone else in the room. He was not willing to talk to or dance with anyone but his party, nor did he favor any of the girls as his friend Bingley did. But that was their first impression of him. He, on the other hand, had thought about things differently. His first impression was the same on them, but after studying Elizabeth, his idea of her changed. And soon he was struggling to remain indifferent to her good looks and lively mind. When she later discovers that Darcy has involved himself in the troubled relationship between Mr. Bingley and her beloved sister Jane, she is determined to dislike him more than ever. Yet the more she learns of him, the more she suddenly realizes that he was not what she thought him to be. In this sparkling comedy Jane Austin shows the folly of judging by first impressions and superbly evokes the friendships, gossip and snobberies of provincial middle-class life. I hope this book report might tempt you to read the book, because I really enjoyed it.
Now for Lesson 3 of Mrs. Marlow's Writing Workshop. I am doing two this time, one for both my main characters. Character: Luke Williams Physical Traits: Long brown hair, deep blue eyes, and a strong jaw. He is tall, with not too large of muscle, just enough to protect and provide for his sister. Personal Traits: Smart and loyal, bold and adventurous; has a quick temper, but is willing to help wherever he can. Likes/Dislikes: Likes adventures and hikes, and animals; loves his sister, and hard cases and mysteries. Does not like being told what to do, pushed around, or tricked.
Character: Lily Williams Physical Traits: Long, light brown hair with a tint of copper color, green-blue eyes, and light smile. Tall like her brother, and thin. Personal Traits: Smart and agile, adventurous and curious; has a light temper, loving spirit, and sometimes her curiousity gets her into trouble. Likes/Dislikes: Loves animals, trees, and flowers; Loves her brother, books and good exercise, and adventures and mysteries. Dislikes bugs, mud, hard rocks, and pitch-black darkness.
Thank you!

Post Script: Go to my first blog Luthien on Friday sometime to read about my dear, sweet Mother's birthday tomarrow! and our move, for on Thursday we are moving all our stuff into our new house! Wahoo! And on Friday we will be finally living in a real home.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,
Do your best to create them well,
'Cause if you get slack, you'll find that you lack
A story that EVER will sell.
Hallo! Today I am doing lesson 2 of Mrs. Marlow's Writing Workshop. This lesson is about how to make good characters. Every story starts with a character; without a strong main character, you have no story!
The Hobbit
Favorite Character: Bilbo Baggins
Least Favorite Character: Smaug the Dragon
My favorite character in the Hobbit is Bilbo Baggins; a homely, non-adventurous hobbit, who gets recruited as a burglar for the dwarves by the old wizard Gandalf to find and take back the dwarf treasures from Smaug the dragon. He didn't necessarily want to go, but he had no choice, for Gandalf already promised the thirteen dwarves his companionship though their journey. So there he went on his very first adventure, and he became a loyal burglar indeed: he rescued his friends from being eaten by trolls and spiders, was brave enough to march into a troll camp and steal whatever he could find, which was actually a huge pocket-book, found elven crafted swords in a cave, saved the dwarves from being in captivity by the wood elves for the rest of their lives, and so on and so forth. Even for a little quiet hobbit like himself, he still braved things that would scare a human or maybe an elf.
My least favorite character is mostly Smaug, the hateful and selfish dragon who stole the dwarves home and treasure. He also persecuted the humans who had done nothing to make him angry, destroying their towns and homes just for his own pleasure. The humans had lived very close to the lonely mountain in Lake Town, which was by a large lake that spread into Mirkwood Forest to the wood elves haven. The mountain used to be filled with many dwarves, scourging it out to find more gold, silver, and other precious stones and gems. Smaug greedily killed the dwarves and stole their treasure for himself, and only thirteen escaped. For hundreds of years Smaug reigned in the lonely mountain, destroying and taking all whom he wished. But he was killed finally by one of the humans in Lake Town, told by that sly hobbit Bilbo, who found the tiniest weak spot in all the dragon's magnificence. That was the end of that greedy, selfish, hateful dragon, and the dwarves soon got their home and their treasure back.
Thank you Mrs. Marlow for these great lessons! I hope you enjoy what I wrote :)

Post Script: I'm sorry its taking me so long to finish another chapter in my book, but right now I'm busy writing some other things, so you will have to wait just one more month so we can get moved in and I can start writing again. Thank you for patiently waiting!
(Writing Workshop Lesson 1 is at the end of this post)
Hallo everyone! I haven't written much on this blog for a while now since I have been busy on my first blog, Luthien. But today I have a few important things that you might be interested to read. I wrote a book report on a book that I recently just read, called "the Five Little Peppers". Now, by its name you are probably thinking a little kids book, but no, actually, it uses alot of words that even a ninth grader wouldn't know until he/she looked it up. But some, if they like to study such things, would probably know it. Anyways, back to the report! This is the middle book of the Peppers Series, and the oldest, Benjamin, is about, oh, maybe seventeen. Polly Pepper, next in line of age, is about fifteen; Joel, approximately thirteen; young David, maybe ten, and last of all little Phronsie Pepper at eight years old. Their mother is a widow, having to take care of the five children by herself, but in the end of the first book they moved to kind Mr. King's mansion. Mr. King is an old man, and Phronsie calls him 'Grandpapa', and she loves him very much like a real Grandfather. Mr. King has a daughter, Mrs. Whitney, who has been married, and has three children of her own: Percy, Van, and little Dick. Jasper King Jr., Mr. King's son, is a little older than Polly, and was the one who had pleaded his father to have the Peppers come and stay.
Now in this story, written by, might I add, Margaret Sidney, many a thing happens to the Peppers while at their new home, but am afraid for most of the adventures that you must read the books to know what else is going on. For this moment, though, I will tell you the most I can in this offered time I have to spare. *Ahem!* Alright, it had been five years since the Peppers had seen their old 'little brown house', and Joel Pepper got real excited when he thought up the secret to visit it again. He told Mr. King his plan, but a little too loudly, for the rest of the family in the room, when at the mention of 'little brown house', questioned him of what he was thinking of. The secret was spilled as fast as it was thought up, and every child was excited to go, pleading Mr. King and Mrs. Pepper that they would dearly love to see it again. The Whitney children were especially interested, for they had never even seen the house yet, and even though it was the middle of winter, they were all determined to go.
The Kings, Whitney's, and Peppers soon arrived at their beloved destination, and were soon crowded by many of the Peppers old friends, who immediately led them to the brown house, fixed up prettily for them. They spent a few wonderful days there, remembering the past and visiting all their old friends, when little Dick broke his leg in sliding down a hill with Ben, Jasper, and Joel on the double ripper and hit a tree. The kind Doctor Fisher fixed him up, and about a week later, after the others had left, Dick and his mother went back to the mansion. Even though there was an accident, they still had much fun and enjoyed their time at 'the little brown house' in Badgertown.
Lets speed up a bit. Plays and dances and parties have come and gone now at the King's mansion, leaving the children happy and enthusiastic. But all their fun come to a dead stop when they received an unwelcome visitor: Mr. King's cousin Mrs. Chatterton, cruel and gloomy, selfish and mean; she ends the children's happy days. Polly, who was very controlled and sweet, could not finally control herself when one day trying to take care of Mrs. Chatterton, who had fallen ill. The ill-tempered lady cruelly accused and rebuked Polly, who was very much trying to control her own temper as she the old lady. But, Mrs. Chatterton had gone too far when she haughtily spoke about Polly's mother. Polly burst into flame as she angerly shot back word for word to the old lady int the bed for to whole minutes before she stopped in mid-sentence, recognized what she had done. And crying bitterly at herself she raced out of the room to find Jasper, who was looking for her. But she couldn't bare to look at him because she was so angry. Jasper did everything he could to calm her, but she got worse, saying she had said such horrible things to Mrs. Chatterton that she couldn't forgive herself till she could find something to do for the old lady. She did find something, to read to her, and was soon herself again and proceeded to her piano lessons with Jasper.
Lets skip a little while more. What a surprise came to the Pepper children when told that their mother wanted to get married to someone, but would not unless her children would give their consent. The someone was Dr. Fisher, who had loved Mrs. Pepper for many years, but never expressed his feelings to her until a while ago when he was in town. Of course the Peppers loved Dr. Fisher and gladly did they approve their dear mother of him. Dr. Fisher loved the children and was very happy to call them his own after the wedding, and so did they call him 'father Fisher'.
Thats all the words I can fit now in this book report so you are just going to have to read the books yourself, aren't you? Oh, and I must add...Mrs. Chatterton wants to make little Phronsie her sole heir! Will it happen? We are just going to have to read the last book, for I don't even know!
In other news, I am starting writing lessons given by Mrs. Marlowat her Writing Workshop. Here is my lesson 1:
Book: The Hobbit.
Character: Bilbo Baggins
Setting: Mirkwood
Problem: freeing the dwarves from captivity of the wood elves
Plot: using the Ring, Bilbo steals the keys, gets them out of the dungeons, squishes them into old wine barrels, then get pushed into the lake by the elves as empty, unuseful barrels.
Solution: The elves get drunk from drinking lots of wine, and push the supposedly 'empty' barrels into the lake.
Moving is now only a week and a half away, and, as I state in my Luthien blog, we have so much cleaning to do! I have today off though, so I can blog.
With moving and everything, I am afraid to announce that I must postpone my writing for a few months , or until I find the computer available to my using, which will be in a few months.
To make a short entry longer, I actually enjoyed painting the baseboards and the trim with flat paint! Why, I was only touching up! But for the doors, apparently, we used the wrong paint. Sooooo, we probably have to paint all the doors now, whoops. Also, painting the walls with extremely-hard-to-clean flat paint will be next up my list.
Listening to very amusing Christian music from Wow Hits 2008 CDs is also on the top of my list, while blogging at least. Ok, I have to go now and make my Peanut Butter and Chocolate Pie - no, you can't have any. I'm sorry, but this pie is for a speacil Girls Club Meeting. So see you later everyone!
For Speech Class, I am to write an article called "Wit and Wisdom". A Wit and Wisdom story is to be based upon the Theme of the day, which mine is Past Times, Hobbies. You put your Wit and your Wisdom together to write something about the Theme. Here is mine for this Thursday:
Wit and Wisdom
Theme: Past Times, Hobbies
To pass the time, many people, especially kids nowadays, would either watch TV, play on their computers and video games, listen to music on an ipod, go to the mall, or just mope around inside and say "I’m bored." What happened to the old board games, crafts, and outside activities? It seems all the new, high-tech inventions have out ruled the healthy activity and fun of the old ones. Back then when there was no TV, no computer, no ipod, no mall; everyone led a healthy life of physical and spiritual activity. Girls back then occupied their time by sewing, baking, cleaning, reading, writing; learning how to become good housewives. Boys used to farm, chop wood, hunt, help provide for their families, and also play sports. You don’t see very many kids nowadays when you are about who look like they do any of those things, do you? Also, families got together every night to read from the Bible, to learn about God and His ways in which He wants us to act upon.
So which of those things would you pass your time with? Watching TV? Or learning how to work for God? Its your choice, but be careful what you decide. Your decision could lead to a horrible experience, or a lifetime support to your family!
The Lord of the Rings is a great book. If you have read it, you would probably think the same, unless otherwise stated. The movie is far from the book, though. Erg, why do they have to do that? They always make movies different from the books, which, if you have read them, the movies are terrible compared to them! Like with the movie Eragon. Who likes the movie? Well, if you do, then you probably haven't read the book. The directors changed almost EVERYTHING, and it doesn't even seem like theyread the book themselves! *Humph!* I wish someone would make a movie that is just like the book, even if the movie would be hours long (put it into more then one disk, or something!). I like watching movies that are based on one of my favorite books, but not if its totally different!
We are moving in October! We will have to stay in a hotel for a month or more, WITHOUT INTERNET , and WITH school!! Noooooo!!!!! But, if we don't go, then Dad will be fired from his job, and he will have to look for a new one. So, we HAVE to move. Please pray for us to find a good home and neighborhood! Thank you.
