Jane Bennet Inspired Wardrobe

CopyofCopyof12-07Pictures028-2.jpg picture by wintercreek

Please note that the designs were inspired by ones worn by Miss Bennet on the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice… as pictured above and below...

 Jane’s Pink Gown…

backup041.jpg picture by wintercreek backup032.jpg picture by wintercreek

This pink homespun linen dress was inspired by the gown Jane wore at the first dance in the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice.

backup028.jpg picture by wintercreek backup039.jpg picture by wintercreek

The gown is made of pink linen and lined with a pretty pink cotton fabric. Bodice features a wrap around front that is secured with hook-n-eyes. The sleeves are accented with one of Jane’s signature looks; a small hole in the center of the sleeve created with a drawstring.

 backup063.jpg picture by wintercreek

To finish the dress there is a pink linen sash that gets tied in a bow.

 Jane’s House Coat…

               backup080-1.jpg picture by wintercreek

This light blue linen housecoat is inspired by the one Jane is often seen wearing around the house. You may have also seen this design worn by Marianne and Eleanor in Sense and Sensibility.

backup065.jpg picture by wintercreek backup084.jpg picture by wintercreek

The coat close in the front with 2 blue buttons that feature a beautiful scroll work design of flowers…just a subtle yet, elegant touch. The back of the coat is accented with two antique shell buttons.

Jane's Coat

bekahjanecoat029.jpg picture by wintercreek bekahjanecoat014.jpg picture by wintercreek

This coat features a wrap around bodice and a full collar that is accented with hand embroidery. I used a blue linen fabric for the outer part of the coat and lined it with a pale blue fabric that was silky, yet soft at the same time.

The sleeves are gathered at the cuff with a historical style wristband.

Close up pictures of some of the embroidery…

Those are lovely, I love the detail on the coat! You do such a wonderful job. In fact you have inspired me to continue my sewing, though it is not half as lovely as yours. Do you take requests?
How have you been lately?

Hey!
Wow! Those look so much like the costumes in the movie! Very pretty. I also saw your post about the Jane Bennet dreses that you made that were white, those are very pretty also.
I'm planning to make a dress probably like one of the dresses that Lizzy Bennett wears, I'm just not sure when I'm going to start making it.
Later! ~ Baby Girl

7/10/2008 - Hi Brielle!

Posted by Liveforeternity at 20:21

Thanks for the comments you left! :-) And thank you for wishing me happy birthday! :-)
I love the "Jane dress"! It is so pretty! :-)
Well, the pattern that we used for OUR dresses was Simplicity 5189... but we altered it quite a bit... changed the sleeves completely (those are actually an altered version of ANOTHER pattern!), added the placket on the front (to make it look as if our dresses were two layers instead of just one), made them quite a bit longer, added the lacing in the back, and generally changed the shape to fit our body types. ;-) So it was a good base, but it needed some help. :-)
I'm so glad that you liked them! :-) We were really hoping that they'd turn out ok, because we kinda 'fudged' it a little... on the 4th of July we didn't want to have to wear two full layers! ;-)
The pattern our friends made was a costume pattern, I'm not sure what one but I believe that it's easy to find. :-) (They were brave and did the full two layers! Ahhhh, I would have been WAY too warm!)
Thanks again for your comment! I enjoyed reading about you in GG magazine! :-)
(By the way, I visit your blog occasionally, and I just LOVE the stuff you make!) :-)
Have a great day (and sorry for this soooo long comment!) :-)
Joy

I have been sewing alot of dresses. They still don't turn out that great but I am getting the hang of it. I do not like the styles in the stores so I decided to make my own. I have been trying out over skirts that open in the front and colonail style tops for the dresses.
Well, I was thinking of a Scottish dress. I tried one once but it didn;t turn out as I was hoping. I would love one like they wore in the midevil days! Those were such pretty dresses.

7/14/2008 - question...

Posted by Hannah at 00:31

Hi, my name is Hannah! I have a costume making question for you...do you ever make Revolutionary War period clothing? I am interested in making myself a 1770-80's period dress for reenacting purposes and am just trying to get some advice as to how to go about doing it. I have never been much into sewing, even though I love it, and would really like to be able to make my own dress, as the ones that I have found are terribly expensive!
So any advice that you could offer, regarding patterns, fabric, etc., would be greatly appreciated!

God bless!!

Hannah

p.s. Your dresses are gorgeous!! Great job!!

Hi Brielle. I was looking for costuming websites with Google and found yours. I'm homeschooled and have many of the same interests, including sewing (I've been sewing since December 2007), though my costumes aren't as professional-looking and I have no idea how you make a costume by looking at movie photos. :) I always use patterns.

All of your costumes are beautiful. Great job!

7/17/2008 - a note from you know who

Posted by Rose at 17:33

Hello Brielle,
Thank you for the comment, I'm glad you liked it.

I thought that about the quotes too, sort of tied it all together.

Yes, we certainly need to make new narnia costumes. Which one do you plan on making? I think I'm going to do Lucy's blue camp dress I've been talking about. As you know my favorite books are The Lion, The Witch, The wardrobe, and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. =) But yes, it is hard to pick.

Thank you. I have always thought that too...she was the only one who had a chance to go back. I think the fact that her entire family died at once would also have some effect on her.

Oh, thank you. I kept saying it in different ways and it seemed to be getting kind of repetitive...so I summarized it.
Thank you, Brielly.
Have a fun time with Emilia!
Love you,
Rebekah Rose

Wow, that is just so beautiful!! I absolutely love the costumes of that era. I recently tweeked my white gown abit to make a frock-type costume and took pics. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2005006&l=37c2b&id=1002492147

My summer's been average and seems to be flying through.... school(college) starts the middle of next month. *sigh*

I haven't gotten online too much this summer and have neglected my blog. :( but I shall be coming back on perhaps. I guess I haven't felt very inspired here because there hasn't been much commenting.

Yay, I can't wait to see the costumes. You're so great with the whole authentic pirate look and LOTR look. Have you ever tried your own LOTR style, nto the movies? I wonder if you could make some of the dresses I've made up. hehe

Have a great day!

Jennifer

thank you for the comment! Yes, I have seen Rose's profile. In fact, we are on each other's friends list, and I have talked to her once. I do like her profile and visit often. I like the dresses you make, they are darling! I also love Grace Kelly's dresses. I especially loved the last dress she wore in Rear Window... the floral full dress... gorgeous.

Have a Blessed Day!

Grace
