Dallas geTOGether
My dear husband totally blessed me and kept things together here for the weekend in early March while I drove to Dallas to spend four days with 30 wonderful women. Many of these I have known for almost four years but have never met in person. This was the first (annual!!!) Tapestry of Grace LooseThreads email list get together.
I drove to Tulsa on Friday to pick up Marsha (the only one that I had met before but just briefly) and we continued on to Dallas. When we arrived, there were several people that had also just arrived and we found each other immediately. All afternoon as we all trickled in we became great entertainment for the hotel lobby staff. I'm sure they thought it quite interesting how we ran up and hugged each other as if we had known each other for years and THEN introduced ourselves.
We had women that drove, and women that flew in from all over the country......Alaska, Hawaii, Maryland, Texas, Michigan, Louisiana, South Carolina, Oklahoma, California, Washington, & Missouri.
What a great time we had fellowshipping, laughing, eating, going without sleep, eating chocolate!!!
On Sunday, we had a brunch planned at the home of one of our moderators who lived in Dallas. The owner of the list, Dody, had just recently handed the list over to someone else because her youngest son would be graduating soon and she had become a realtor. Unknown to her, we had all been planning for months before this to bless her. We gave her a GPS system to help with finding her way around Alaska as a realtor, a scrapbook with memories from the families on the list, and a beautiful quilt made from frabric that ladies had sent in. She was totally astonished that we pulled this all off without her ever even getting a clue that we were up to something. Oh, and that was even with the *extra* surprise of socks!! Everyone brought a new, cute pair of socks to give to Dody all weekend long. She had no idea why we were doing this but thought it was funny. It wasn't until Sunday when we were about to giver her the surprises did we tell her that we were about to "Bless Dody's Socks Off"
Slowly, the group trickled down so that by Sunday night there were only twelve of us left. Then on Monday most of the rest of us caught planes or drove home. Thankfully, everyone made it home safely.
I'm going to upload pictures as soon as I can.
I came home to my wonderful family and gave lots of hugs. I got to sleep fairly early and jumped right in to our routine on Tuesday. Such fun!!! |
