Currently: Currant

Posted in Moms-Kitchen

Several years ago, at the cabin up north, I discovered a currant bush, literally exploding with berries. I picked as many as I could, and brought them home. I wasn't sure what to do with them, since I'd never made anything with currants, so I mixed them half & half with fresh strawberries and made a batch of jam. It was very tasty.

When we moved out here to the country, one of the first things I did that spring, was go to the nursery and buy 2 currant bushes. They've been growing well, but never exploded with berries like that bush up at the cabin.

Until this year.

They've all ripened this week, and I've been picking them each night after dinner. Right now I have a huge mixing bowl in my fridge, with rinsed, de-stemmed currants, almost to the top of the bowl (maybe 7-8 cups? maybe more?).

So here's where you come in. I need super-delicious currant recipes! Do you love them? Do you hate them? How do you use them? What's a sure-fire hit recipe for currants?

I look forward to your comments.
