Yard sales... the place to be :-)

Posted in General

YAY… I finally had the opportunity to go yard sale shopping today.  I LOVE  yard sales, and we’ve been itching to go all spring.  Yard sales are one of the best places in the world to find homeschooling resources.  They’re also a great place to find other things that a tight-budgeted family of 9 might need.

Here’s what we came home with today:

  • 2 oil painting prints (one is October Morn by Robert Wood, I LOVE this, my mom had a print when I was little, and I just loved it)
  • A huge chalkboard, with tray.
  • A 6’ stepladder
  • A brand new curling iron, still in the box
  • 3 huge packages of wafer cookies
  • A lovely yellow table lamp, with tulips on it
  • A nearly new bike for Rachel
  • A little 15” black & white tv
  • A lovely patchwork paisley dress for Ruth
  • A chair

All that, for a whopping grand total of $30.25  You read that correctly, thirty dollars and twenty five scents, for all that.

Yes, I love yard sales.

Okay, I did not get quite that lucky, but for $40, here's what I came up with:

Old cast iron pot for open fire cooking
Super Nintendo system with Mario Bros. game
Chenille queen-sized blanket
2 old iron spoons (to go with pot)
Wooden pizza peel
Marble and glass cheese "keeper"
Decorative mirror for our wall

I did even better AFTER the garage sales when someone posted on my local FreeCycle.org list that she wanted to give away all that was left from her sale. We got a boxful of freebies there!
