Thursday Thirteen: Things I Love About Where I Live

I'm not actually a part of the Thursday Thirteen stuff, but this one hit a chord when I saw it on ElCloud's blog, so I thought I'd do it.

Thirteen Things I Love About Where I Live

1.  No gated "safe" communities, drive-by shootings, stand-still traffic, rush-hour commutes, smog, or pretentious perfect postcard lawns of exactly 10' x 10' dimensions.  (Can you tell I love where I used to live?)

2.  Seasons!

3.  A wonderful, huge playroom/ schoolroom that lets my kids have their own space and keeps messes in one room.

4.  A garden plot that actually grows things (until my neglect kills them).

5.  A compost bin that is making the most lovely dark compost I could imagine.

6.  Neighbors who speak to you, know your name, and worry when they don't see you for a few days.

7.  The freedom to homeschool pretty much how we want with very little oversight.

8.  Living in the town where Lincoln walked, lived, breathed, and was elected President.  It fairly exudes history.

9.  Huge trees that provide shade, wood for the occasional cookout, and lots of sticky gumballs to keep my waist in decent shape.

10.  A safe and fairly comfy basement to retreat to when we have tornado watches/ warnings/ appearances (rather than all six of us, two cats, and four rats in the bathtub!).

No wonder the Bible says to give thanks (1 Chronicles 16:8, 34; Psalm 100:4; 1 Thessalonians 5:18) so many times.  Giving thanks blesses your OWN heart! :)

Well, I had not checked your blog in a while and was pleasantly surprised to see lots written here again. I was checking it from time to time even after it seemed you were not going to blog any more. I enjoyed what I read (so far;-). Anyways, I wanted to comment on the below anger thing. I have never been an angry person with people, but when I had kids-that all changed!! I totally understand the yelling at each other and my kids are really mean to each other (my boys anyways). I know some of ther fights are just going to happen, because they are kids and they have to share evrything. But the screaming and being mean makes me so sad. And unfortunately, I believe they get some of it from their momma. I have struggled with anger for about the last three or four years. It is something that I just wish I could snap my fingers and poof it would be gone. But I cannot. I struggle with it daily. I think it is something you just have to face on a daily basis-and give it over to the Lord on a daily basis! Anyways-I am making this comment way too long!! Sorry! God bless you-it's great to see you blogging again!
