Jul. 14, 2008 - Subway Writing Contest Now Open to Homeschoolers

http://www.subwayfreshbuzz.com/kids/contest.aspx

The Subway "Every Sandwich Tells a Story" Contest is now open to homeschoolers. I am going to allow my daughter to enter - not for the sake of "winning" the contest, but to get her creativity flowing and give her something significant to do. I am certain there were protests when Subway discluded children who are homeschooled from the earlier contest. I want to be sure that those protests didn't go to waste. I want to encourage you to allow your child/children to enter the contest. Allow them to rise to the challenge and let the creativity flow this summer! And HAVE FUN with it! Click the link above for details on the contest and how to enter.

*After someone left a comment stating they were rather upset with my "endorsing" this contest, I realize not everyone would agree to allow themselves to be involved in this contest for whatever personal reasons. That is totally your perogative - but since this is my blog, I hold the right to write as I see fit (not to be rude). I deleted the comment to prevent further comments of debate. My blog is not created for that. My intent was solely to bring it to the attention of those interested. If you are not interested, kindly move on to the next blog. That is your perogative. Thank you.*

Oct. 6, 2006 - TV go buh-bye!!!

Ok, well Jonathan and I have been feeling it for some time.  Get the tv out of the living room. So we did. We put it in the closest on Sunday night and honestly NO ONE misses it at all! As far as watching actual tv programs go...we only watched Extreme Makeover, and sometimes AFV.  Otherwise we would just pop in a dvd for or the kids - many times too often. So we stored it and not that this is any surprise but, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! It has made a difference in each family member!

So here's the deal. We are storing it for a month. If we still have no desire to have that thing in our living room, we are selling it. It's our only tv in the house. We don't have a smaller one or anything. The only thing we have is a dvd player on our computer in our bedroom. So if we absolutely want to watch something it would have to be in here, while we lay on the bed. Most times we've done that, I've fallen asleep anyways. It is amazing to see the positive effects NO tv has on us. I am very confident in this decision. :)
