Dining Room Chair Makeover for $21.00!
This
weekend I finally got motivated to give my dining room chairs a
facelift, or should I say a "seatlift". It's something that I put
off doing until my youngest was mostly out of the totally, messing
smeared, food on the chairs faze...not saying that still isn't going to
happen. If you have tired, stained or torn seat cushions on otherwise
nice chairs, this is the post for you! I recovered all six of these
chairs in a little over an hour and for the bargain price of $21!!! Go
ahead try it, it's easy and what a difference it makes. Tools: Screwgun, staple gun (3/8" staples) and scissors. Materials: Flat batting (the thickest you can find) and durable upholstery
type fabric. If your cushions padding is already in good shape, all you
need is the fabric. Over the years, my chair's padding had gone flat,
so I purchased a thick $12.00 roll of batting and the fabric, which I
got at Walmart, cost me only $9.00. This could be a really cheap
project without the batting. STEP #1 Turn chair over and unscrew the long screws located in the corners. Your chair should like a chair skeleton. STEP # 2
If using batting lay the cushion on the batting first and staple to
back snugly. No need to pull off old fabric, just cover it over! I
really needed a good cushion, so I used 3 layers together. Next lay
cushion (see picture) on top of back side fabric and pull snug and
staple to back. STEP #3
Line up the cushion so that it's postioned right and careful flip chair
over, being sure not to shift cushion position. Then, screw it back
into the frame. You've got brand new looking chairs. Stay tuned next week for a trick on how to cover up dents and chips in wood furniture.
