How to NOT mix up Bs & Ds or 9s & Ps!
|
Remedy for mixing up Bs & Ds and 9s & Ps. It
is common for most children to mix up their letters when learning to
write. Through repetitive writing, this backwards problem usually fades
away naturally. However, this is not the case for everyone. My eldest
son, who is slightly dyslexic, was still occasionally making perfect
mirrored images of words even after writing for many years. One of the
best way I have found to remedy this problem is to give them a mnemonic
trick or tool to remember the correct way to write a letter or number.
To help remember which way to write b & d....just think of bed!
Have
them make a fist with fingers extended on the table (see picture
above). Tell them that they are making a bed with their hands. See the
headboard and footboard of the bed?

To help remember the correct way to write 9s &Ps....just think of 9 Pigs!
After putting fingers int the "bed" position just flip them around so they are now facing towards you.
