A Day in the Life

Dh is sold!!

Now I knew that my dh was okay with the idea of homeschooling but I think he's really and truly enthusiastic about it after last night!! When he got home my daughter was able to recite Joshua 1:9 and Proverbs 3:5,6 to him line for line!! Now that isn't all we've worked on this week but if one were to know my dh they would know that THIS is speaking his language.  This is the kind of progress that really makes an impression on him and he literally got teary eyed when she did that.  It was great.

My little one (the two year old) is picking up on things here and there and is getting a little better at being able to sit still and focus but she's not nearly as intensely focused as my other daughter (almost four).  I am praying and searching for activities to engage her.  I also need to find ways to have time where I can work with her just one on one because so many times my older daughter will jump in with an answer before my little one has a chance.

We are on a puppetry roll (thanks to schooldaze for that inspiration! :-) Yesterday we made a finger puppet theater out of a cereal box, we then made tiny puppets out of paper and popsicle sticks of pilgrims and then I let my oldest daughter make a background "set" which you can slide into the back of the box-- she decided she wanted to make one of church :-) It is very cute and they had a good time doing it.

My big thing right now is that I am kind flying by the seat of my pants-- I mean I have a definite schedule but as far as content-- no real set direction.  I kind of want to work in themed units or even get my hands on a curriculum just for my own comfort as I get used to this.  We didn't do a lot today because we had a long (and *exhausting*) afternoon at a Chuck E Cheese birthday party.   I did find a GREAT book of Bible stories at the library yesterday and I think we'll attempt to do the first one this evening.

Until next time! ~Brandi~

Try to make your 4yo listen to what she has to say anyway. You said she jumps in a lot, but try to make her listen. Tell her this is the time you want to hear your 2yo answer. I've been doing that since mine were little and it's instilled a caring quality in my older one. She was already like that but now she's the little Mom when I'm not there (during Sunday school or while someone is babysitting). One person commented on her care of her younger brother. It might not click like that with your oldest one, but give it a shot.

If your dh loved her quoting scripture I wonder what he would say if you were going to teach every subject from the Bible..kinda like using the Bible as a textbook. It's called the Principle Approach. Check out LovingHim4Ever (http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/LovingHim4Ever) and PrincipledMom's (http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/principledmom) blogs as they are doing it everyday in their home school. Principled Mom has links to other blogs on here who are using it in their home school too. Just putting a little bug in your ear.

That's good news. My husband realized it was a great idea when my son and I were able to go on a business trip with him.
