Triple Threat Camp

It's only a week until camp starts!  I'm getting really excited.  This will be my 4th year at this camp.  For those of you who weren't "around" when I wrote about camp last year, Triple Threat Camp (it has a longer, complicated name but I just call it that) is a 2 week summer dance and drama intensive.  A Triple Threat is someone who can act, sing, and dance.

Classes start at 9 a.m. with musical theatre, in which we each learn a solo and come up with a small "scene" to go with it, and we all learn a group number and the choreography for it.  Last year our theme for musical theatre class was seasons.  I sang "Summertime" from the musical Porgy and Bess, and our group song was "Seasons of Love" from Rent.  I can't wait to find out the theme for this year and what we'll be singing!  Doing the choreography for the group song is one of my favorite parts of camp.
After musical theatre, which lasts for an hour and a half, we have either pilates or yoga (alternating days) for an hour.  Pretty much everybody hates pilates; it's really hard and usually makes you really sore.  Yoga is pretty cool...before anybody freaks out or anything, this isn't the "spiritual" kind of yoga.  There are lots of different kinds of yoga, and the one we do, "Hatha Yoga", doesn't include meditation or anything.  Anyway, it's not my favorite class but it can be pretty fun.
At 11:30 we have a 45 minute lunch break.  After lunch this year we have a new class, acting.  I'm excited about this class!  I've always kinda wished that musical theatre focused a little less on singing and more on acting.  But now I get both!
Acting is a 45 minute class.  Then we have tap or jazz, depending on the day.  I take the intermediate classes of these two.  I would like to take advanced jazz, but it's at the same time as intermediate tap and there is no way I can take advanced tap!  My second year at camp was the first time I had ever attempted tap dancing, and I only do it at camp.  I do have tap shoes this year, though, so I will no longer be a "silent tap dancer"!  lol  Anyway, these classes last for an hour.
Next, at 2:00, is modern class, which is one of my favorite classes.  I wasn't sure if I would like it or not when I first started going to camp, but it's actually really fun.  There are lots of different types of modern.  Last year we did a Christian praise dance, an African dance, and an "abstract" dance, meaning that the moves weren't neccessarily on the beat.  I think African is my favorite style, although I like all of them.
From 3 to 3:15 we have a mini-break to eat a snack, catch our breath, and get ready for ballet.  On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday we have ballet and pointe, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays we have ballet and variations.  The variations class is when we learn a dance en pointe from a ballet like Sleeping Beauty or Giselle.  Last year we learned one of the fairies' dances from Sleeping Beauty.  The ballet class is an hour and 45 minutes, which is really long for a ballet class.    But I think it's actually shorter than it was the first year I went, and we do get a couple of short breaks during class, one after barre and one to put on our pointe shoes.  One day last year we ended up sitting in a circle massaging each other's backs and having a photo shoot during the middle of class.  That was pretty funny.
Camp goes from Monday thru Friday both weeks; the second Friday is our performance day.  All the parents and grandparents and everybody come and watch us.  We do our songs from musical theatre, and whatever dances we've been working on in the dance classes.  Pilates and yoga don't have a performance.  Although personally, I think we should make all the parents do pilates.    lol I'm just kidding.  I don't know what we'll be doing for the acting class, but we'll have a performance of some sort.
I will try to update my blog at least once during the 2 weeks while I'm at camp!  And when I get home, I will have pictures to share, and probably videos since I finally figured out how to upload them!
Speaking of videos, I am going to upload another one onto my photo blog.  I made a video with clips from the Junior Miss performance last year after I was in it, but I couldn't get it to upload.  It's a little late now, but I figured I might as well go ahead and post it!
    Have a great week!
    Love,
    Briana

I hope your camp goes/went well!
Wow, that's cool about you going to be a counselor! I think one time my mom was a counselor at a camp before (but it was for horse riding, I believe.).

God Bless,
