Major Life Changes

Wow.  It's been a really long time since I last updated.  And for the amount of stuff that has happened since then, it should have been much longer!
First of all, I went to Triple Threat camp the last week of June and first week of July.  That was a ton of fun, as always.  If you haven't seen my previous entry telling what that camp is, you can see it here
After camp, we stayed a few more days at my grandparents house.  My dad and Ashley were in Guatemala at the time, so we waited until they came home.  Then I was home for around 4 days before I was off to be a camp counselor.  I had 7 girls in my cabin that week, the most I've ever had.  They were ages 11 - 13.  Four out of the seven girls either wouldn't listen to me or were hard to get along with.  So it was a very interesting week.
The next week I was at home, but I was getting my wisdom teeth taken out.  The good thing was, I didn't have any pain and felt pretty good all week.  It was a good thing, because I was back to camp the next week.  For a much better week!!  I only had 4 girls in my cabin, because it was the last week of camp and there aren't as many campers there.  They all knew each other already, and they were the craziest group of girls ever!  They kept me laughing all week.  I had to leave camp to go back for a checkup at the oral surgeon's on Tuesday.  Then the next day one of the surgery sites started hurting, and I ended up going back Friday afternoon after I got home from camp.  Turns out I had an infection, but it got better quickly.
On Sunday afternoon my family left for Panama City Beach, FL.  We stayed there for a week and had a fun time.  We didn't get to swim as much as we would have liked, because there were double red flags for the first couple of days.  But we had fun on the beach, too!
Now, to get to the major life changes.  Many of you may know about my plans to go to Carson-Newman and study interior design.  Well, classes at Carson-Newman started yesterday.  But I'm not in a dorm room, or even on a college campus.  I'm not in my room at home either!  I'm currently in my grandparents' living room.  Why?  Because I've moved here.  Let me rewind back to the beginning and tell you what happened.
Back last year, I had what I called my "early midlife crisis".  I have always loved musical theatre, and I went for several weeks when I really didn't know whether I wanted to continue with my interior design pursuit or go for musical theatre.  I ended up deciding to stick with my plan to major in interior design and minor in theatre.  And I was fine after that.  Until the last few days of Triple Threat camp.  Then I had another crisis!  It didn't last quite as long, but it was just as bad or worse.  I'm really glad my mom was there - I cried on her several nights in a row.  Somewhere in there, I realized that I really had no desire to study interior design anymore.  And Mama convinced me that if musical theatre was what I wanted, I should pursue it whether it was "practical" or not.
It really didn't take me long to give up interior design, but it was much harder to give up Carson-Newman.  I was rather attached to it.  But after much prayer and consideration, I did.  I still have no clue why God brought me through all this planning for C-N and why everything worked out so perfectly if that's not what I was supposed to do.  But I'm at peace and confident about this.
So anyway, then we were back on the internet looking at colleges, and trying to decide what I was going to do this year, because it was too late to get into a college and get scholarships.  I won't go into detail on all that because it was crazy and frustrating.  I still don't know where I'm going to college next year.  The problem with the programs at a lot of schools, including C-N, is that they're just general theatre degrees, so they include directing, production, etc., and not enough acting.
It took me forever to decide what to do this year.  I finally decided while we were in Panama City - to come here and take classes at the playhouse where I go to camp.  Then I found out that classes started that Monday, the day we were leaving Florida.  So I started a week late, but the ballet master was okay with that.  And here I am!  I have ballet Mondays and Wednesdays, modern and tap on Tuesdays, jazz on Thursdays, and musical theatre on Fridays.  This Saturday is Nutcracker auditions!  My first break is just a little over a week away, so that's a good thing.  I'll get to go home for a week.  I have another break in October, then Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks.  So far I've really been enjoying the classes.
So that's my big news.  It's been a crazy summer, but I've enjoyed it (most of it anyway :-).
    Love,
    Briana

Wow...I understand how challenging the college decisions can be...especially when you feel like you're torn between what you want to do and what is expected of you. I'm sitting out a semester too - and using it to take CLEP tests to get the freshman year of college out of the way (then I'll enroll in college in January). You might want to try that too - the five general CLEP exams are very straightforward and you only have to make a passing grade of 50 to get the credit (from the sample tests I was able to pass all of them without prior preparation - except for the math, which I haven't taken yet). That way you're not falling behind in college credit (5 general exams = 1 year of college) but you still have time off to focus on your own thing.

Hope all goes well for you!

Take care and MAY GOD BLESS,
~Amanda~

Well, you are doing better than me, because you know as least one thing that you are positive you want to do. I don't have a clue as to what I want to do, where I want to go, or what God's plan for my life is. It is kind of scary not knowing what is going to happen, it is slightly hard, although absolutely necessary to trust the Lord with my future.

Yes, it does sound like a busy summer, and I will be praying for you, that you will follow the direction of the Lord. I know that you said that you already have plans for this fall, and are going to a school, but I will still be praying for you. Have fun doing what you love to do! I have always dreamed of doing musical theatre, but I am not really good at acting, or singing. I think I'll leave it to you. :)

Isn't it great that we have such wonderful mothers that we can cry on? Where would I be without mine?

Have a very bright, very cheerful day!
