I was at a friend's party on Saturday when I took a bike jump perfectly. The way I landed, however, put me off to the side of the second jump. Instead of just stopping, I figured I would just shoot the jump and hope to make it. As you can probably imagined I didn't. I hit the jump on the side flipped off it went over the handlebars and landed, I'm guessing on a big rock, seeing as how the bike didn't have anything on it that could punch a half inch deep hole in my leg. Fortunately I didn't break my knee and should be fine in about 1.5 weeks.

Apr. 16, 2008 Yet another good day on the farm
It started as an ordinary day, gardening and moving a calf from barn to field. When the calf came out of the back of the barn, he spooked and ran straight into a six foot deep manure pile. If I think about it in slow motion it is funny. To see the calf run from concrete to manure, that moment of dawning comprehension that 'Wait something is wrong here.' Even for a calf he seemed to have an amazing vocabulary. Buuu Maaa Moooo Bluu Uuuuuuu Bla Mmmm. So we finally got him out with a shovel and little bit of motivation. All of you who live on a farm know what I mean. zzzzttttt. After getting out of his predicament the calf then promptly went back up the way toward the barn. Through about 60 ft of pure mud, when he could have gone, literally, four feet to the field. *sigh* We gave up on him.

Well, it started out a good day. Grandpa and I were going to spread fertilizer in the field. We had two loads done and were on the ball, when a tire on the tractor blew out. This is not your ordinary jack it up and put on the spare scenario. First, we got into the dump truck and attempted to take it out of the field. Note, if you will, the wording of this: 'we attempted to take it out of the field.' We got through the main part of the field without much of a problem. Then we got to the gate, and there the truck stayed for three days before we got the neighbor's tractor to pull it out. After going the next mile to the barn on foot, we got into the truck and grabbed a jack, some bricks and wood to support the tractor, and a winch to keep the tire supported. After an hour we finally got the jack to jack, it had run out of fluid while sitting in the dump truck for three years. So then we found that we had no ratchet heads that fit the lugs on the tractor wheel. So back to the barn we went, and came back with the correct one. Now we got the wheel off, and now we must get the tire into the truck. This tire is calcium filled, making it well over four hundred and fifty lbs. So we tried winching it into the truck, all we succeeded in doing was bending the bumper and breaking some of the metal in the bed. Then Grandpa got the idea to drain the calcium out and pick it up with the tractor, then deposit it in the back of the truck. Which we succeeded in doing, then we got the tire to the barn. Three hours pass and dad says, "O.K. let's take this tire into Les Schwab and get it replaced." So we get in the truck the tractor wheel is in. This truck is old, rotting, and dieing. Which it succeeded in doing at Les Schwab; I had thought to myself, ' We had better not turn the truck off or it may not start ever again.' I promptly ignored this, thinking I was just paranoid. So we turned the truck off. Why don't you just guess what happened next. You guessed it, the thing never even tried to crank over. So we got a jump from another rig next to us and got it started. Seeing we were close to overheating and there are several coolant leaks, we decided to skip running the couple of errands we had planned. AND WE MADE IT! *whew* Talk about suspense. All in all, $700 dollars spent to get a new wheel (the wheel we had was busted and the tire rotted) and tire + calcium.

Feb. 15, 2008 Big Night At AWANA
Wow, at AWANA club last night we had almost 75 kids. Mostly because the Boys Basketball team just ended. But even around in my neighborhood we had extra people show up. I'm the games scorekeeper and it was so hectic I had to come just shy calling the entire room to attention a couple times. On the bus I ride that goes out to collect kids from other communities we stuffed three into one seat on this 16 seat bus. But it went well and that's what counts.

This is cool. Lyric just showed me how to upload images. So here's one that is interesting. Vadar And The Prairie Pilot. The picture is obviously of a prairie dog in Arizona which I promptly doctored and came to this conclusion. Oh yeah, Lyric found the prairie pilot's helmet on google.

O.K. so yesterday at 1300 hours, the repairman came to our house and ,after 3 terrible months, we got our dishwasher and clothes washer fixed. What a relief. That's 3 months of hand washing the dishes and taking clothes to our grandparent's house for washing.

Feb. 3, 2008 MRO for the 'Clueless'
Lyric's comment has provoked me into creating this blog about the Mission Radio Operations. MRO is a field of Emergency Services where the cadet is taught how to use a radio properly and locate yourself on a map and report a position when out in the field. The other part is when you are in the mission base operating a radio. If you are in this position it is your responsibility to know where all the teams are at any 15 minute interval, report a find of a clue, or find out if a team must return to base because of an injury. This is an extremely important position in the chain between base and the teams. So there is the explanation of what a Mission Radio Operator does.

E=IR An equation used to find different things about a circuit.
We got snow here yesterday! If you live around where I do, you know this is a momentous occasion. Normally we only get rain. But now the roads are icey, and my dad had to drive 100 miles to work in it. :( |
