Aug. 25, 2006 - Patriotic Friday

What time is it where Fran is? We solved that problem! We bought a cheap clock at our local discount store, ("Reny's" for those who live in Maine!) and converted it to Kuwait time!
The boys took it apart while I opened my Microsoft Picture It! software and made a new clock face. I imported the photo of the sandstorm that my husband had sent to me the other day. I measured the clock to be about 5" and so then made my circle template the same size. I fit the photo into it, and then put text on top of it, eyeballing the placement of the clock numbers. We did a couple test prints on plain paper. We needed to tweek the size a couple times to get it just right to fit
on top of the old clock face. Finally we were able to print the final run in color onto 24lb paper. My sons put the clock back together and we hung it on the wall in our computer room!
If you do graphics at all, you can pull this off in whatever software you use. I'm sure I could have used Publisher, or Fireworks, or whatever. I'm most comfortable with Picture It! (To my 19 year old web designer's mild distain! But I started using Microsoft Picture It! long before he was an expert in design and graphics software!)

I imagine you could even just put stickers on the clock face saying Kuwait Time or Iraq Time etc. for those of us who are techie challenged. My hubby is leaving in a couple of days and I'm trying to find ways to help my youngest through another deployment. Things like this help keep Daddy in our hearts and minds in a practical way.
Thanks!
