KONOS question

I'm thinking about using Konos for us this next school year, and since we use tax money to buy curriculum I thought I would ask around for what others thought of it, if they had used it and so forth.

So feel free to share.

We need to change some things, Science is something my son loves but things we've tried just aren't clicking, so i'm still looking on that part as well if we don't go with Konos.

I'm looking for something all together like Konos but fairly cheap.

I know Sonlight is out there but just can't go there and not fully sure it would click with my son.

You might want to check out In The Hands Of A Child. They offer lapbooks and project packs at a reasonable price and it is hands on for the student!

Jan. 5, 2008 - science

Hi there! I have not used Konos. I am using sonlight, but you are correct in the price of it all. I have just started using God's Design for Life by Debbie and Richard Lawerence. You can check it out at www.answersingenesis.org or at Nature's Workshop (www.workshopplus.com). We are only a couple of days into it and I enjoy the short easy chapters. My 8 and 6 year old are enjoying it. We started Exploring God's Creation: Botany by Jeannie Fulbright, but found it to be too much last year for the ages of our kids, plus I was having a hard time motivating myself to go and get all the things I needed for the experiements. However, there are complete packages for each of those books at Nature's Workshop that have exactly what you need for the whole year. This route is pricey and puts you at the sonlight level for the price of the science program, but it is entirely God focused instead of secular like Sonlights early science seems to be. I definitely want to do her books at some point, but am waiting a couple of years to dive into those. There are all sorts of wonderful resources and curriculums for all things to do with Science at Nature's Workshop. You should check them out. They'll send you a catalog if you ask. It's very nice and thorough. Hope that helps! Happy New Year!!!

Jan. 7, 2008 - Thoughts on KONOS

Posted by gidget
I have used KONOS in the past (ever so briefly). First I'll tell you what I did like...I loved the variety of projects and activities. It looked like so much fun. I liked that you could choose what you wanted and not follow a certain sequence of subjects without totally "messing up" the curriculum.

What I did not like...I had to do a LOT of planning. It seemed easy enough to do (after I sat through a 1/2 day workshop), but I was just not meant to be that organized. I needed something much more simple..."Tell me what to do and how to do it...and don't forget the shopping list." :-)

KONOS is the smorgasboard (sp?) of Unit studies. It also is character-based which is what drew me to it. But if you need something that comes pre-planned, you might want to look at something else...OR look at their KONOS-in-a-box units. HTH! :-)
