Sep. 1, 2008 - Pirates...
On Saturday, we made our first trip down to the Detroit Science Center. We had a blast!
We purchased the membership, of course. After all, with a family this size it's cheaper. Plus, now we can go back again. We plan to go back several times this year to see the Imax films they play, as well as to visit the planetarium. This ties in with our science curriculum this year-astronomy.
First, we went through Odyssey's Shipwreck! Pirates & Treasure exhibit. The artifacts are from a Civil War era ship, the SS Republic, that sunk off the coast of Georgia, during a hurricane.

After that, we walked around and played with some of the hands-on stuff. We all know that these are the things that make science museums so much fun.

We also watched the Imax film, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs. This was a perfect tie-in with our history studies.
We look forward to going back and enjoying many more days at the Detroit Science Center. Just watch out for pirates!
