Inspired to be encouraging and loving just like Tomie dePaola's mommy.

It has been 4 1/2 years since we started homeschooling. Then it was me teaching and Dad sometimes watching a historical or science show with the children.
Now-I plan and teach all three of them most of the time and Dad is teaching more and more! He has big plans for this year.
Our eldest is 1/2 way done with his mandatory education.....and I wonder....what will he be when he grows up? I would love to hear from other moms and find out how and when they first saw their child becoming an adult. My daughter I do have a vision for-her path is easier to see.
Well, we start back next week so off to plan I go!

Jul. 6, 2008 - what will they be when they grow up?

Funny... my middle son asked me that the other day! He said "Mom? What do you think I will be when I grow up?" I told him "Son, I couldn't even forsee what *I* was going to be when I grew up! There's no way I can tell what you're going to be!" I certainly never would have beleived I would grow up to be leading a game development team comprised of volunteers while homeschooling my children at the same time! Life is unpredictable that way.
My daughter is the only one I have some idea what she might be whens he grows up, but then she is my youngest child and is only 7. That is certainly open to change, and she does have more than one interest in life. But her passion is horses. And she is always drawing pictures of pregnant horses, or horses having babies, or horses nursing their baby foals... I kinda get the idea she might be an Equine Vet! She loves drawing too though... and singing. So it's my job to help her cultivate her talents and interests, and let God help her decide how to use them.
My sons are much more of a mystery. My oldest is highly gifted, he can learn anything he reads, the first time he reads it. He doesn't have to "study" so much as just "absorb" it. He's very good at writing and he is good at making up games. He's good at math too but he doesn't seem to enjoy that as much. He likes pirates, but I don't really forsee that as a career option for him. LOL
My middle son struggles a bit with studying but he loves science, and inventing things, and he also loves medieval history. He likes to be outside, and he's fairly quiet and a little bit shy. He says he either wants to be a farmer or an inventor when he grows up. But he seems to have a lot of interests and doesn't really know what he REALLY wants to be.
My youngest son loves fast cars, horses and cats. He's all boy! He's the only one of our children who doesn't seem to have seasonal allergies. No idea what he will be when he grows up, but we're having a lot of fun while he's still home with us for now. :)
Enjoy being with them while you can. They grow up far too fast. My oldest just turned 15... it's kinda scarry to think he'll be on his own in just a few years. My time is almost up! I find myself thinking "But but but... what about all that stuff we were going to do?"
Time slips away while we're waiting for our ship to come in so we can afford to do the fun stuff.
God bless you,
