Jul. 1, 2008 - Weeds
Saturday while the boys and Josh dug dirt to put in some landscaping bricks, I thought it would be a good idea to tackle the clover problem in our backyard.
Yikes. It was all over. We're known in the neighborhood by all the rabbits that flock to our yard to enjoy the delicacy. Ha.
Armed with my week killer, I set out to destroy the clover that was quickly overtaking our yard.
Not much to think about when you are sprinkling weed killer on clover, but God was faithful to bring to my mind how much weeds are like my unconfessed sin.
One small weed is easy to pull, you don't need any strength. Easily the root comes out and the issue is resolved.
Let that little weed grow and soon it turns into a big strong weed with a root system.
Keep leaving it alone and lo and behold, you get our backyard. Not much grass, all weeds and the weeds quickly spread and eventually will take over the entire backyard if not properly dealt with. Choking out all the good grass.
How often am I like that with God? The Holy Spirit brings to mind an issue of unconfessed sin. I shrug it off. I'll deal with it another time. It's not really a big deal at this moment.
But before long, it spread all throughout my life and heart. And eventually will take much more work and effort to get rid of the sin. He will have to do more serious cutting and pruning in my life to.
He's been impressing on my heart recently the necessity of keeping short accounts. Quickly confessing my sin, before it's too late. And the big guns need to be applied. From my experience, that hurts a bit more.
If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Jun. 30, 2008 - Good Tunes
We attended a concert last night at our church. Ever since attending the Steven Curtis Chapman concert last Oct, the boys are always asking to go to another one.
Well, this one was free (concerts are terribly expensive these days, probably always have been, but I haven't attended too many) and free things are always a blessing to our family!
Anyways, Jordan and Jessa Anderson are a young married couple with amazing God-given musically gifts both in composing songs and performing them.
I love hearing the stories behind songs, especially from the person who wrote the music.
Their songs were written from their hearts. It was also an encouragement to see a couple who married young, grow in the Lord together. Josh and I married young (20 and 21) and it was so encouraging to love and grow together in our early 20s at such a challenging time of transition in life.
Good music.
Godly people.
Encourage you to check them out!

Jun. 27, 2008 - Seasons
I will make them and the area around My hill a blessing: I will send down showers in their season--showers of blessing. The trees of the field will give their fruit, and the land will yield its produce; my flock will be secure in their land.
Ezekiel 34: 26-27
"Sometimes God requires us to follow a fair amount of repetition for a considerable amount of time until He deems a season is complete. Then all of a sudden, He seems to do something profound or miraculous, and we can't figure out what changed."

Jun. 24, 2008 - Growing Peaches
We usually order a large amount of peaches from an annual Youth for Christ sale in Aug. Most get frozen and the rest fill our bellies, but we end up with lots of pits.
Last year, Josh had the great idea of planting the pits to see if we could get some of our own trees to grow. A year later, we have lots of little peach trees.
Today, I found an article about growing trees from seeds. It's much more complicated that what we did. Our method consisted of washing the pits, letting them sit out to dry for a few days, digging a hole, dropping them in, and watering!
Either way, maybe we'll have some peach trees in a few years.
