Jul. 1, 2008 - Weeds

Saturday while the boys and Josh dug dirt to put in some landscaping bricks, I thought it would be a good idea to tackle the clover problem in our backyard.

Yikes. It was all over. We're known in the neighborhood by all the rabbits that flock to our yard to enjoy the delicacy. Ha.

Armed with my week killer, I set out to destroy the clover that was quickly overtaking our yard.

Not much to think about when you are sprinkling weed killer on clover, but God was faithful to bring to my mind how much weeds are like my unconfessed sin.

One small weed is easy to pull, you don't need any strength. Easily the root comes out and the issue is resolved.

Let that little weed grow and soon it turns into a big strong weed with a root system.

Keep leaving it alone and lo and behold, you get our backyard. Not much grass, all weeds and the weeds quickly spread and eventually will take over the entire backyard if not properly dealt with. Choking out all the good grass.

How often am I like that with God? The Holy Spirit brings to mind an issue of unconfessed sin. I shrug it off. I'll deal with it another time. It's not really a big deal at this moment.

But before long, it spread all throughout my life and heart. And eventually will take much more work and effort to get rid of the sin. He will have to do more serious cutting and pruning in my life to.

He's been impressing on my heart recently the necessity of keeping short accounts. Quickly confessing my sin, before it's too late. And the big guns need to be applied. From my experience, that hurts a bit more.

If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
