Monday, June 23, 2008 - Prayer

"Probably the greatest result of the life of prayer is an unconscious but steady growth into the knowledge of the mind of God and into conformity with His will; for after all prayer is not so much the means whereby God's will is bent to man's desires, as it is that whereby man's will is bent to God's desires." ~CHARLES H. BRENT

Friday, June 13, 2008 - Your opinion please! :)

Alright.... here's the question.....

What is your opinion of the song "Edelweiss"?

I love this song, I think it is wonderful! However I know many people who like the song, and I know some who don't. But, I've never heard a good excuse as to why anyone doesn't like it. So, I'd like to hear your opinion on this song!

Thanks!

Blessings,

~Hannah

P.S. I just added a new music player to my site full of some of my favorite songs ever, so be sure to turn on your speakers and enjoy! :)

Thursday, May 8, 2008 - bonjour!

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry it has been such a terribly long time since I posted last! I have been terribly busy the last couple of weeks!

Thank you to everyone who left a comment on my last post! They were all so kind. Thank you also for the blogger's award! :)

I graduated from highschool two weeks ago! It is wonderful to be done. :) The weeks prior to that were so full with last minute preparation, and since then I have been busy working to catch up on all that I have neglected during that time. I'm finally now getting to my poor deserted blog. :)

I'll try to be posting more often now! Please check back again soon!
Blessings,

~Hannah

Friday, March 21, 2008 - Today..

LET us examine our capacities and gifts, and then put them to the best use we may. As our own view of life is of necessity partial, I do not find that we can do better than to put them absolutely in God's hand, and look to Him for the direction of our life-energy. God can do great things with our lives, if we but give them to Him in sincerity. He can make them useful, uplifting, heroic. God never wastes anything. God never forgets anything. God never loses anything. As long as we live we have a work to do. We shall never be too old for it, nor too feeble. Illness, weakness, fatigue, sorrow,--none of these things can excuse us from this work of ours. That we are alive today is proof positive that God has something for us to do today.

Thursday, March 13, 2008 - bonjour encore,

Hello again,

Solo and Ensemble went well.  I was a little nervous before it started, but by the time it was over I decided that we should have one about once a month or so. :) I actually really enjoyed it.

That weekend was actually very interesting though, in that we receieved a beautiful snowstorm which caused us to lose our electricity. The snow was so pretty but I really missed the power. :) I'm afraid I'm rather a wimp when it comes to having no electricty! I was SO happy when it came back on late Saturday afternoon. We actually had to "move" into town. I must stay it was the first time I stayed at a hotel so close to home!

Our first Easter program "presentation" is now only seven days away! This month has gone by so fast so far! I'm so excited about the program. I just love all the songs that we are doing this year! I have a feeling I'm going to be singing all the songs for long after the Easter program is over. They just seem to get stuck in your head for a long time. I know they did mine last year.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,

~Hannah

Thursday, March 6, 2008 - Bonjour mes amis...

Hello friends,

Look at this! Two posts in one week! :)

There are only 2 more days until solo and ensemble. I do not yet feel ready, but I am hoping it will go well.

There are only 15 more days until our Easter program! It is so hard to believe that it is coming up so fast! I am looking forward to it very much. I wish we had more time to practice though. lol!

I've heard we may be getting more snow again this afternoon... I think we have gotten more snow in March so far than we ever have before! :)

Well I need to go attend to my government study, so I better go for now.

Blessings,

~Hannah

Tuesday, March 4, 2008 - First Impressions...

I'm sure by now you all have probably noticed I've forgotten about updating my blog again... the truth is that I've been really busy lately! I guess blogging just sort of slipped my mind. :)

Today and yesterday we had family visiting from out of state. The came out to our house this morning; and since they hadn't ever seen it before, we especially wanted it to look nice and neat and make a very favorable impression. Well I guess the story starts rather on Saturday afternoon when I tried a brand new recipe. It was a cake that you pore a pudding like mixture over the top before you bake it. The idea is while it is baking, the pudding mixture sinks to the bottom, and leaves the rest of the cake very moist and delicious. Well, somewhere along the bottom of the recipe it suggests that you may want to place the cake pan on a cookie sheet, just in case the topping may somehow boil over. I admit I somehow missed that part when I actually put the cake in the oven. About five minutes before the cake was finished baking, I wandered into the kitchen to check on it, and noticed that on one side of the cake, the cake had lifted up and the filling was systematically leaving the pan, some what like a slow volcano-like eruption. Needless to say, the oven was quite a mess. So back to my original story, this morning I decided to bake chocolate chip cookies for our guests, and it would make the house smell lovely as well. I cleaned up the oven as best as I could, but some of it was baked on rather hard, and I couldn't get it all cleaned up. Assuming it wouldn't be a problem, I went on with what I was doing. As I was preheating the oven, I noticed that it smelled pretty awful. I figured it was just the extra lemon filling on the bottom of the oven. After a few more minutes the smell was getting worse and so I turned around noticed smoke pouring through the oven vents. A little alarmed I opened the door and saw the filling quite happily on fire. I grabbed the baking soda and put the flames out, but as you could imagine, by that time the whole kitching/dining/living room area had become quite thick with smoke. That was not at all what I had planned to welcome our relatives! So as my sisters and I decide to open all the doors and windows, I realize there is still snow on the ground, not exactly open-window weather. :)

So, to make a long story short, (or, shorter), as our guests were running a little late things turned out fine. Our guests did not even comment that our house was a little smoky, or chilly for that matter. :)

The moral of the story? I'm not sure.... either : Check your oven for lemon pudding before baking cookies..... Or: Always keep the baking soda on hand!

Wednesday, February 20, 2008 - I can do it!

I am posting on my blog two days in a row just to prove that I can do it!

Well the big news is in school today I finished my Biology textbook!!! I still have to take the final, but knowing I am DONE with that horrid book is such a great feeling! (have I ever mentioned my disinterest in the study of biology? :)

Right now I'm baking  chocolate cookies with chocolate and white chocolate chips. It is the first time I have ever used this recipe but I think they are turning out well.

I better go finish up the cookies and then I have some ironing to do before church tonight!

Blessings,

~HannahElizabeth

Tuesday, February 19, 2008 - a typical day in the life of me...

Yes, my friends, believe it or not, I am updating!

Today has been rather calm. After school I taught a piano lesson. It was my youngest student's lesson today. She's so sweet but she's only five so things are often interesting. :)

After that I sewed some. The lower tention had been acting up lately but I think I finally got it fixed. (yay!)

I am really looking forward to Easter this year. I can't believe how quickly it is approaching!

There's only 2 more months and 6 days until graduation. I'm certainly excited about it but I'm afraid it's going to be a push to get everything done in time.

Well I hope you all are having a lovely day! I'll try to remember to post  again sometime soon!

Blessings,

~HannahElizabeth

Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - Ciao!

Hello everyone,

I apologize it has been so long since I have updated my blog. My poor website probably thought it had been abandoned. :)

Things have been really busy lately with school and preparing for graduation and everything. It’s been really cold here lately, but it has felt so winter-ish. (Is that a word? :) Yesterday on our way home it was starting to get kind of icy. We still have not yet had any true snow though.

Sunday we started choir practice at church for our Easter drama. It is hard to believe it is already coming up so soon! I am excited about it.

Yesterday I had a piano lesson; I am working towards being able to play at weddings, so I have been working recently on “The Bridal Chorus”, and “Simple Gifts”. Yesterday I started “Canon in D’, which has always been one of my classical favorites.  We also had YCME choir practice yesterday. We have been singing through some really gorgeous Latin pieces lately that I really like. Last week we also looked through a really elaborate version of “Shall We Gather at the River” that was really beautiful and had huge chords. At one point the sopranos alone were divided on three notes!

Then last night I baked a loaf of White Chocolate Bread. The name might sound odd, but it was really easy and my family really liked it. The white chocolate chips melted and made the bread sweet, but not too sugary. The other flavor is cinnamon, and I added a couple dashes of cloves.

Today I taught a piano lesson after school. It’s really interesting seeing music though the eyes of a five year old, as she takes in all the basics. The biggest question is, why isn’t there a note named “h”? :)

Well, I hope you all have a great rest of your week!

            In Christ,

                     ~HannahElizabeth

Saturday, January 5, 2008 - The "Reel" Movies

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to tell you about a new website I have started : The "Reel" Movies. I just love the old black and white musicals especially! But there's just something about the old movies with the sophistication, orchestral scores, fascinating dance numbers, and classy vocals. The era of Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Audrey Hepburn,  Bing Crosby, and many more. I would love to introduce you to the "reel" movies.

I would love for you to check out my website and let me know what you think!

Thanks!

May God bless you,

Thursday, December 20, 2007 - "Peace on earth, good will to men!"

“I heard the bells on Christmas day, their old familiar carols play, and

*

wild and sweet the words repeat of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought as how the day had come, the belfries of all Christendom had rolled along the unbroken song of peace of earth, good will to men.

And in despair, I bowed my head, ‘there is no peace on earth’ I said, ‘for hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men.’

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep “God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; the wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will to men!”

Till, ringing, singing, on it’s way, the worlds revolved from night to day. A voice, a chime, a chant sublime, of peace on earth, good will to men.”

Henry W. Longfellow
