Most Recent UPDATE:
I spoke with Paulie about an hour ago, after he sent these pictures out. He sent them, because he wanted them posted on his blog, but he was at the hospital and won't be home until later!! He is so proud!! He just kept saying how cute she is. You know how a baby looks like a newborn and 'gets cuter' after a couple of days? :) He can't believe how absolutely cute she is. He said that Gena got to nurse and hold Susanna and then he had to go because he wanted to see her one more time before he would be leaving. Please go leave him comments so there are a bunch when he does get home to read them!
Please continue to pray for Susanna. She is 3 weeks early and is having a hard time with her breathing. She is also being kept in a bassinet in the NICU, because, at this young age - and being only 5# 14oz., she is having a hard time keeping her body temp warm enough. LucyLillie had the same problem. I wasn't in the hospital though, so I just held her next to my bare skin and kept her bundled up. Susanna is beautiful.
For further updates, keep an eye on Paulie's and Levi's blogs!!!
Here are the details Nancy Carter sent this morning:
They got to the hospital about 2 yesterday afternoon. They started her on the pitocin and a Magnesium and the such because of Gena's high BP. It was up to like 200/100! Not much progress for a long time UNTIL they broke her water. Gena said once they broke her water she went from 3 to full REALLY quickly! And things were kinda nuts. Her epidural didn't take well - only on the right side (just like with Levi). Doctors and nurses weren't expecting things to progress so quickly and Gena said once she started pushing. Susanna practically flew out and almost hit the table!
Susanna was only about 37 weeks along and had her APGAR scores were a little low - 5 & 7. She had some respiratory troubles so they whisked her away to the NICU so Paul & Gena haven't gotten to hold her. She's doing well though. Just needs a little oxygen. Paul got to look at her. Gena's looking forward to getting to see her this morning and is really determined to nurse her even though they were giving Susanna formula in the NICU. Gena has kind of been stuck in her bed due to all the medicine they gave her during delivery, but she'll be up and moving around this morning. Her BP has come down soooo nicely - like 116/60.
They'll probably stay 2 nights in the hospital. Please pray for no infections and no complications from the preeclampsia for Gena.
Mandatory funny idiot Schooter story. Gena said that they went to the doctor's office and he said "get to the hospital", but they had to go by the house first. Everybody started piling in the van to go to the hospital and even idiot Schooter was trying to ride along too. Gena says "Dumb dog thought he was going to watch me deliver I guess."
Neat God things - Remember how excited Gena was about the car seat/stroller thing a friend was giving her from Florida? Even though Sus came about 3 weeks early, they are so happy cause it should arrive tomorrow. They had to have a car seat to get Baby Sus home of course!
Gena said thank you all SO much for praying. I told her that we were probably covering quite a few time zones with the Allens in China, Team Bullivant in the UK, and the rest of us spread out over parts unknown! Keep praying. We want Sus out of NICU, good health for both Gena & Sus, and for the breastfeeding to go well. :-)
Please go to their blogs and wish them Congrats and your prayers and blessings!!

Oh, and Gena.... Luc got to see Sus, and she loves her!
blessings! -Jacque

Oh I so love the picture of Luc looking at the picture of Sus! I can't wait to see a picture of them actually together.
I just thought of the line from Hedge of Thorns where he says something about the long-awaited time came when he (john) could play with his little Bell. Won't it be fun when Susanna is old enough to actually PLAY with Lucy?
