This sign reveals so much-- about Hong Kong's cleanliness & about it's Chinese neighbor's lack thereof.
Spitting is a common sight (and sound!) in China. But it's strictly outlawed in Hong Kong! Horray! No jumping out of the way when I hear that gutteral wind up.
Another sign that we rarely see in China is this one --
I despise smoking. I think it's nasty, wasteful, and just wrong. So I love these signs and the fact that the rules are actually enforced!
This is particularly unique - an anti rodent campaign.
And this sign was found outside of a grocery store.
Close ups of the various cough manners:
And since Hong Kong is the land of SARS and bird flu, these wonderful hand cleanser dispensers are in lots of public places -- museums, malls, and hospitals.
The powers that be here in HK work really hard to educate the public and work towards superior sanitation. It's obvious! And I enjoy it while we visit.
I love the posts of the signs around you! They are so funny! I too can't stand smoking- the smell just gags me. Oh and public spitting would be so gross! It's nice to see signs to remind people about hygiene- haven't seen many of those in the U.S.
Have a great weekend!

I think we could use some signs like that in the US. Maybe not the spitting one. Ewww. From what I've heard about Singapore it sounds a lot like Hong Kong (in this aspect at least) Have you been to Singapore?
I just love your photo journaling! Each tells a wonderful if not funny story. You should consider putting into a book. Thanks for sharing! So happy you got an apartment!

~^~Why "One Child Policy Homeschool"? I happen to have an only child, and I live in China. It is just my attempt at a witty name for the blog.
