Have you ever lost a friend?

Have you ever had a friend that you thought was real? But turned out to be someone that really wasn't your friend? Have you ever had someone that you were so open to showing who you really were? But thought that you were strage and talked badley about you behind your back and you pretended you didn't hear it?! And then all of a sudden you found someone that was just like you and did the same things you did and excpierinced the same things that you did, Then after a while you found out really cool things about eachother and you stayed friends for a long time! all This has happened to me  before. Has some of these things happened to you? If so tell me about it because I want to hear about it!

dinasaur footprints!!

Yesterday my Poppa took us to a Dinosaur Park that showes real dinosaur footprints from a long time ago. When I saw one I almost fainted. It sure was mind boggling to see a footprint that could "squash you like a bug." How would you feel if you saw a dinasaur footprint? I got to step in the river and feel the footprint. It is funny because you would just be walking around and step into a big hole and you realize it's a footprint. Too cool! I wish my friends were there to see it with me I bet they would think it was cool to. I'll update you on other things later. See ya

My Dad left for Minnesota

Hi everyone! yesterday my Dad left for Minnesota because he needed to do something for his buisness. I really miss my friends in Minnesota!I hope I get to see them soon! My Dad said when he got home Callie, my moms cat, was even fatter than last time and I thought she was fat before. Isn't that funny? I miss my dog Kacy so much -she is a golden retriver. I was going to download the picture of me and my cousin but my Dad has the camera!

My Birthday

I'm in Texas right now visiting my great-grandmather in hospice. She is in the stage were she is seeing angels and doors, which I think the doors represent the gateways to heaven.

Yesterday was my birthday and at 11:21 last night I was offically 11yrs old. I went with my mom and my grandmather to see the movie Flicka, and it was great! We took a small break from visiting Nanna. I found out in the movie "Flicka" means beautiful in every way, and  when my mom heard that, she said I was a "Flicka" and I smiled. I reccomend this movie.

I also went to a neat restaurant where we had good 'ol southern chicken, mashed potatos, green beens and biscuit's. After I ate, the waitresses placed a chicken hat on my head and put a cone cup in mouth and they asked me what age I wanted to be and I said 16. They yelled out my name and the age I chose and told me to flap like a chicken as they sang the birthday song. After that my family and I were laughing so hard, becuase I was a silly chicken. When we stoped laughing the birthday biscut came out with a candle in it and everybody said, "Make a wish and  blow out the candle!" However, since I was full I only had a few bites. It was a fun night last night, and a great birthday after all.

Summer Plans

I am excited about this suumer, because we have a lot going on, and we have my friend Thomas staying with us during the day.  At the end of May I had my state testing and scored really well.  Mom was so happy that she said we could take off for a few weeks and just have fun.  The two weeks are over and now Thomas is with us, so we are back to a schedule (bummer).  I don't mind though, because Thomas and I have alot of fun together.  We have a swimming pool in our back yard so when the weather is hot we get to swim in the afternoons.  Tomorrow we are going to the free summer movies at our local movie theater.  A few of my homeschool friends and I will be meeting with our Moms and going to see the movie DREAMER.  Ya know, the movie about a horse.  Anyway, I will fill you in more when I get the chance.

What are some of your summer plans?

Emailed A Missionary

Here is a letter I wrote to some missionaries.  The missionaries I chose are Rebecca and Brad Hopkins, who are with Mission Aviation Fellowship.  They  use airplanes, computers and other technology to overcome barriers to the Gospel around the world. They bring food, doctors, medicine, pastors, missionaries and Bibles into hard-to-reach areas.

Hi my name is Kaitlin and I am ten years old. I saw your website and I cannnot believe you caught a shark in Japan! That sounds so cool! I hope to be a missionary some day just like you guys. What made you want to become a Missionary? Do you have any prayer requests, because my family and I could pray for them?

~Kaitlin

Brad & Rebecca's Response To My Letter:

Kaitlin,

Thank you so much for your email your interest in our ministry. That was so cool to get your email. We are excited about your interest in being a missionary some day. We have been a missionary in Indonesia for a year and we really feel like we get to be part of God’s work here.

Here are our stories of how we became missionaries. My husband, Brad, always wanted to be a pilot when he grew up, but he wanted to be a military pilot. Then he volunteered with a youth ministry and grew to really enjoy serving God in that way. But he still wanted to fly. So, he talked with his pastor and his pastor told him about the opportunity to work as a missionary pilot. Mission Aviation Fellowship uses planes to get into hard-to-reach areas (places where there are no roads, so it takes days to travel on foot to get to a hospital, for example). So, he went to college to become a missionary pilot. Then we moved to Indonesia last year. We have been in language school, but we move in a couple days to another island in Indonesia where Brad will begin flying.

Here’s my story of wanting to become a missionary. My dad was in the Army, so I grew up moving around a lot. It was hard to always leave my friends and start with new friends. But I grew to really appreciate and rely on my relationship with God. When I went to college, I volunteered with a youth ministry and grew to love helping other people discover how much God loves them. I met Brad and we dated for a few years. Then we got married and a few years later we became missionaries.

We so much appreciate your interest in praying for us. Here are some things you can pray for:

-Pray that our move to the island of Borneo (in Indonesia) goes wellβ€”that we can settle in, and find new friends.

-Pray for safety for Brad when he flies.

-Pray for opportunities to share God’s love with the Muslims in Indonesia.

-Pray for love and unity in our marriage.

-Pray for continued closeness to God.

Kaitlin, please tell us how we can be praying for you. We would love to get to know you more and keep in touch.

Thanks again for your email and your interest!

God bless you and your family!

-Rebecca for the Hopkins

Do you have a missionary that you keep in contact with. If so, can you tell me about them.

Oh My Goodness, More Snow!

picture of my house with snow (right before Christmas).

This is a picture of my house with snow before Christmas.  Guess what?  In the last two days we got even more!  I am so excited because now we can keep going sledding down at the school that has a big hill.  I also made the bottom for my snowman, but I need to finish it.  I LOVE SNOW!

Do you have snow where you live?

My Piano Teacher

This is my piano teacher, Mrs. Jaeger, and me after the recital last week 12/10.  I love her because she is patient and caring, and really encourages me to keep practicing and working hard.  One day I hope to be a great composer and song writer.  I love to play the piano and sing songs.

Do you play an instrument?

Narnia & Piano Recital

This was a great weekend for me, even though I was sick.  On Friday night my parents took me to see The Chronicles of Narnia.  Mom and I have been reading the books together and now I finally got to see the movie. It was the best movie I have ever seen!  Then on Saturday I had a piano recital.  This was my first piano recital so I was nervous but tried my best.  Once I got up the piano I felt just fine. I think I am going to enjoy playing piano for a long time.  I can't wait to get to Dallas so I can play piano for my Grandfather. He plays piano too, really well.  I hope we can play some duets together.  I have some easy ones in my piano book.

I have been sick with a fever and cough.  I have been drinking lots of warm things and water.  Mom says I can't go anywhere until I get better.  BUMMER!

Have You seen Narnia?

Colorado

Me and my cousins Joshua and Michelle sledding in Colorado

Colorado was so much fun!  My cousin Michelle and I stayed up late playing UNO and APPLES TO APPLES, some fun card games together.  My Dad made yummy popcorn for us, and my Mom read Chronicles of Narnia to us.  It was neat because when it was really snowy outside we got to imagine it was a winter wonderfland and that we were in Narnia.  Colorado reminds me of Narnia so much.  We stayed in a place called Steamboat Springs, which didn't have a lot of snow, but when we would drive up into the mountains it looked just like Narnia.

I really miss my cousin Michelle and cried when I saw their car pass us on the freeway to drive back to Dallas.  Mommy, Daddy and I stayed in Colorado Springs our last day in Colorado, but Michelle and her family went back to Dallas.  I had so much fun with Michelle that is was really sad to know I would be without her for a long time.  We are the same age.

In Colorado Springs we went to the Focus on the Family Welcome Center where we visited Whit's End and the Soda Shop.  Everything was closing so we only got to stay there for an hour or so.  I wanted to take Michelle with me.  She makes me laugh all the time and is so silly.

Oh well, that's all for now.

Faith, Creationism & Corrie Ten Boom

Faith is like radar that sees through the fog -- the reality of things at a distance that the human eye cannot see.

Corrie Ten Boom

In History Mom and I have been talking about faith this week.  We have been studying the life of Corrie Ten Boom, who lived in Holland during World War 2.  She helped many Jewish people get food, and helped them hide from the German army.  She loved the Lord and tried hard to do what was right instead of what the German's wanted her to do.  Her faith in God was very strong.

In Science we have also been talking about faith. I really loved our unit study on Creationism vs. Evolutionism.  I learned that Creationism is based on faith and God's word, and Evoutionism is based on false theories of science and man.  We studied the break-away theory that says the moon was once a part of the earth, and when it broke away from the earth it left a hole and that is where the pacific ocean is.  Mom and I laughed when we heard that because God says in the Bible that He set the moon in its place, and it wasn't in the earth that is for sure.  The astronauts that went to the moon came back and proved that the brea-away theory is wrong because the rocks and minerals found on the moon were totally different than the rocks and minerals found on the earth.  But people still believe that the moon was part of the earth.

Science is based on the five senses and our belief in God is based on faith. It was fun learning more about faith.  Mom says I wouldn't be able to learn about that if I was in public school.  I LOVE HOMESCHOOLING!!

P.S. - Mom helped me pick out the title of my page and the quote.

Longitude and Lattitude

I am so excited about my schoolwork this week.  I have been studying the globe and world map and learning about longitude and lattitude, parrallels and meridians, southern and northern hemispheres, and how to locate places.  My Dad knows how to fly a small airplane, and used to build airplanes for the government. He said that airplanes and boats use GPS to locate places they want to go to.  GPS means Global Positioning System.  It uses lattitude and longitude.  I got to choose 10 places I wanted to visit in the world and we found out what the GPS is for that place.  It was so much fun!   I have a spelling test today so I better go study.

The Sleepover

THE SLEEPOVER

left to right = Molly, Alicia, Kali & me (Kaitlin)

We had sooooooo much fun!  Molly, Alicia and Kali arrived at 1:00 p.m. and then Mom took us to see the movie "Herbie Fully Loaded."  It was a great movie! Then we came back to the house and jumped on the trampoline for awhile.  At 6:00 p.m. Dad and Mom took us to a place called DaVinci's, for Pizza.  Then we all came back and had smore's around the campfire in the backyard.  We didn't get to sleep until midnight, so we were very tired the next day.  What a great sleepover!!  I can't wait to do it again.

Have you ever had a sleepover at your house?  If you did what did you do? I would love to hear about your sleepovers.

Love, Kaitlin

This Week

I have been working on my Math today.  Yesterday we learned about Roman Numerals and the Roman way of life.  I even learned how a sundial works.  I can now count up to 500 in Roman numbers.  At first I didn't want to learn about them because they looked funny, but now I like them alot!  Mom showed me all kinds of pictures of old Roman buildings and colliseums that were built by men who used Roman numbers.  I also saw clocks with the same numbers.  It ended up being a fun study time.

I am soooooo excited about starting Keeper's again.  It is a group of girls that get together and we work on projects.  Our first project will be scrapbooking.  I love scrapbooking so this will be fun!

My friends are coming over on Monday for a sleepover.  Kali, Alicia & Molly are some of my good friends and we will be having a pizza party, cook smores on the backyard firebowl, paint nails, style our hair and see a movie.  I am not sure which movie to show, but will ask them when they get here.  Kali is 9 like me, and Alicia and Molly are 11 and 12.  We all get along really well and laugh alot!  I can't wait till Monday!!.  Time to get back to Math

Today

This weekend was fun.  Me and Dad went on a 7 mile bike ride on the trails behind our house, while Mom rested. I love going bike riding with him, because we always stop half-way at a playground and he swings me on the big tire swing.  I hope he takes me and Thomas on another bike ride today.  Dad is home on vacation the next 2 days, and Uncle Ronnie is coming back to Minnesota with his co-worker.  They are spending the night at our house.  Dad bought a fire bowl so we can have a campfire outside and roast marshmallows.  I LOVE CAMPFIRES

Kali

I am bored today.  Mom hasn't felt too good and Thomas isn't here this week, so I am going to see if my friend Kali can play.  She is my friend from the christian school I went to last year.  We get along really well and have lots of fun together.  I think I will go call her

Going To A Waterpark

I like water parks in the summer because you can get wet and cool off when the weather is hot outside.  It has been really hot here in Minnesota.  Mom says the temperature is in the 90's lately. I need to start keeping track of our daily temperature on a temperature chart.  I used to do that when I was younger but I need to do it again.

Anyway back to the water park.  We are going to a water park here in MN on Wednesday and I am so excited!  I can't wait to go on the water slides and tube on the lazy river.  My friends Thomas and Alicia are coming with us and they are so much fun.  Especially Alicia because she is in 6th grade and has a great personality.  Mom said she can start babysitting me soon because she went to the Red Cross for a Babysitting class and CPR.  She only charges $2 an hour

Thought I would let you all know what we were doing.  What are your plans this week? Anything fun?
