November is National Novel Writing Month. I know it's not November yet, but if you want to participate in this crazy activity, you can sign up now at nanowrimo.org.
This year will be my fourth year in participating and completing a 60,000 word mediocre novel! :-) It is a blast. It's really easy if you just tell yourself that you are going to write 2000 words a day no matter what.
And that, of course, is where the mediocre comes in because writing a great novel means rewriting the novel countless times!
So, I have more than three mediocre novels to work on now (it's actually a hobby of mine to write mediocre novels) and I figure that someday when I am old, wearing purple and red, and the kids are grown, I just might be able to dig one out and work on it for real.
As for this next one -- I've got it formulated in my mind and I can hardly wait to for November 1 to get here! I love National Novel Writing Month!
(Don't forget to encourage your high school students to give this a try! What an awesome homeschool project!)
There is also a book that the creator of National Novel Writing Month, Chris Baty, wrote called No Plot No Problem. I am quoted in the book. It is embarrassing because my quote is, well, a little undignified. He quoted me saying that I get my inspiration in the bathroom because that's the only time I'm by myself without the kids!
