"Mom! I can't sleep!" The boys are more eager and excited about getting to Grandma's than they were about exchanging gifts! I am propping my eyes open with toothpicks waiting for my dryer to dry load after load of clean clothes. The twins have autism, and they go through tons of clothes, otherwise I'd definitely pare down the jeans and shirts. But they really are necessary. My other son is also a messy, so I am stuck doing all of his clothes, too.
It's not that I didn't plan ahead -- but there are just so many hours in a Mom's day!
"Mom! I can't sleep!" They are so excited about being in Grandma's presence!
As I was folding their shirts after comforting them and sending them back to their beds, I thought about God's words to us to stay awake and wait for His return!
We should be saying, "God! I can't sleep! I can hardly wait to see you! I am so excited about your coming and it's all I can think about! I can hardly wait to be in Your presence! I just can't sleep!"
Didn't He tell us to stay awake?
[34] For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
[35] Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
[36] Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
[37] And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."
(Mark 13:33-37, KJV)
"God! Can You see me here waiting for You? I want to stay awake, Lord! I want my desire for Your return to be as full of anticipation as my little boys' is for the presence of their grandparents. I want to be aware with every pore of my being that I will soon be face to face with You! I'm awake, Lord! Keep my eyes open, Lord! I'm ready!"
