Getting Back on my Feet
We have had two weeks of illness in this house. I have been in
bed a week and a half. I have 3 boys -- all with cognitive
disabilities -- a husband with ADD and three very active dogs.
So....you can just imagine how this house looks!
I am trying to face it all. I am scared.
Very scared. It's dangerous! The dishes are piled to the
ceiling -- well, okay, not quite that high -- but that's how it FEELS
to me!
I do have most of the laundry caught up at leats
until tomorrow when they all remove their clothes again after
church. hah!
Where do I start? Do you ever just feel like
"what's the point?" when you get this behind? Do you ever just
feel like it won't matter that you spend all that time cleaning because
when you turn around to do another chore the one you just did will be
undone? Well, you might not but I do!
Parents who raise kids with disabilities have a
whole different set of challenges. For so many years we were just
doing our best to survive day to day so we had developed some very bad
habits. I had to learn to pick my battles. But that also
meant letting things slide a "normal" or "typical" family
wouldn't.
Can I tell you a secret? You promise not to
hate me or think less of me? Shhhhhhh. (Whispering): We still have our Christmas tree up.
Don't tell anybody!
Now, where did they put that vacuum? Maybe
I'll find it under the pile of Christmas stockings and Christmas cards
over there in the corner. . .
Just being
real, folks! :-) If you read this, I wouldn't mind if you
said a prayer or two as we get back on our feet and try to get a
routine in place. Oh, and maybe by June I'll have that secret I
told you taken care of. But then -- I always did want to have
Christmas in July!
I have to laugh because my little boys with autism
love plugging it in and enjoying the lights. I'm sure the
neighbors must think we are the most slothful folks on earth. If
they only knew. I give them one hour -- no, I give them 30
minutes -- okay, even 3 minutes with my boys and see how many "extra"
things they are able to do in a day!
Sometimes. . .sometimes I just wanna hide or sit and stare off into
space -- every feel like that? Gee, I wonder what would happen if
I did. . .

*THANK YOU!* for the comment on my blog~I am SO ENJOYING reading through yours! and feeling a bit guilty to boot, because I feel EXACTLY the way you do, and none of my three boys even have disabilities! (Our mantle is still Christmas decorated, and our stockings are still up! I wonder if we might be referred to as the "ghetto" neighbors...)
This has been a difficult season here, and I've been far more than honest in it, too. I hope you continue to honestly share! I'll be reading.... (((((HUGS))))) sandi

I got your comment on my blog...thanks for the encouragement! Your household cleaning challenges sound like mine. My husband is disabled, but all the children are able and I feel like we should be able to tackle housework! When everyone is home all the time, and the house is small, no corner goes unused by the end of the day.
