August 18, 2006 - Good News & Bad News

A couple of pieces of news – and this is the classic “good news, bad news” routine.

Dear Kerry,
I just wanted to thank you for all the freebies! I ordered Raising Leaders the first day and I have not been disappointed so far. In fact I find your philosophy very encouraging. I too am a former public school teacher and I have been learning at home with my children for about 5 years now. Through that time the Lord has shown me better ways, His ways. It has not been easy to walk this path of faith as I often feel alone, even among other homeschoolers. The desire of my heart is to raise my children to fulfill their God-given life purpose and that cannot be done by pursuing education in the world's ways. Thank you for your refreshing message and encouragement.

August 19, 2006 - Former Public School Teacher

Glad you find Raising Leaders an encouragement. Having been a public school teacher I know what it is like to change philosophically. I also know the tremendous freedom you can have to follow God and lead your children "off the conveyor belt". I was just talking to another mom this morning about scheduling. I thought to myself, "I'm glad I don't feel the pressure to finish each program/curricula in a year".

When my kids decide to study a particular subject, we often take more than a year to finish...or just start in mid-year. Most homeschoolers can't fathom that. But most homeschoolers follow the government's suggestions for academics instead of trusting God for his direction in each of their children's lives.

Dear Kerry,

I am devouring the ebooks and really enjoying them. I am wondering if you have an egroup somewhere of those who wish to learn and discuss this philosophy with you and others.

Also, please forgive my ignorance, but what is a "bent" book? I can wager an educated guess, but that term is new to me. I thought I would ask!

Glad you are enjoying Raising Leaders. I plan to start a group on Sept 1 to discuss leadership education, host speakers, provide special articles and implementation ideas. I'll be announcing more on this blog.

Bent book - One that does not follow the regular pattern, or bends, the traditional story format.
