After writing my last post, I decided to
write about a respect letter. I first heard of a respect letter
from Nancy Wilson in her book, Fruit of Her Hands. As women we
are usually good at love letters, but leave something to be desired in
writing a letter of respect.
To get started, simply list those qualities that you respect in your
husband. Hey, it can't be that hard - you married him, didn't
you?
- Does he provide for you family?
- Is he a hard worker?
- Does he take your family to church?
- Has he been faithful to you?
- Is he kind to your parents?
- Is he a good father?
Most of you will answer yes to these questions. For some of you,
it might be harder to list qualities of respect in your husband.
But, it is still your God-given duty to respect your husband. He
is the head of your family, even if he is a poor head. Since he
is head, he deserves respect from you.
Apply the golden rule. Do you want to be loved only when you are
unlovely (sitting on the couch in tears)? He needs your respect
even when he is unrepectable. When you show him respect, he will
probably become more respectable.
Take your list and begin to write a letter of respect. List what
you appreciate and admire in him. Nothing is too trivial.
Don't you like being told the good things you do for your family?
Be sure to talk about his job because this is very important to
him. Men are task-oriented and you need to take this into
account. Leave the love until the end.
Mail the letter or tuck it into his suitcase before he leaves for a trip.
Once you write a respect letter, you can start telling your husband how
much you respect him and how proud you are of his
accomplishments. Thank him for all he does for you...and let the
kids hear you telling him!
Obedient respect for your husband will have positive consequences.
