Seasons of life are a reality in our lives as moms. We come & go from one season to another. I was reminded yesterday that even the dry seasons are followed by rain. Are you in a dry season? Or, are you filled to the brim, readied to be emptied in a future season?
I remember when my children were young and it seemed all I ever did was take care of their physical needs. It was soooo tiring - changing diapers, feeding babies, wiping noses, bandaging cuts, waking at all hours of the night. You name it, I was doing it.
It was during that time, I remembered something my mom said while I was in college. My mom was leading a Bible study for young moms. She was telling me all about it when she said, "I told those young moms they were in a season of life. This season will not last forever. Don't be so hard on yourself."
You may be past the toddler stage and on to the teenager stage. What a stage of life? As a mom, you exchange physical needs with emotional needs during this season. When your 16 year old pulls out of the driveway for the first time by herself, you worry if she can really drive on her own. When your daughter is sobbing on your bed because she doesn't have any friends, you become emotionally drained. Or, your son doesn't ever make first string on his baseball team, you are overly concerned for him. You are definitely in a new season of life.
All seasons of life are from God. Yesterday we sang about all seasons of life having a reason to worship. Whether you are feeding toddlers, driving carpool or watching your teenager become more independent, you have a reason to sing & worship God. Say these words to yourself:
All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
If you are in a dry period of your mommy career, know that God always provides exactly what we need at the time.
This is my prayer in the desert
When all that's within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides
If you are in a turbulent season where everything seems to be falling down around you, lean on your faith in God.
This is my prayer in the fire
And weakness or trial or pain
There is faith proved more worth than gold
So refine me lord through the faith
If you are full to the brim, in the middle of the harvest season, enjoy it. But, be ready for God to empty you, using you in others' lives:
And this is my prayer in the harvest
When favor and providence flow
I know I'm filled to be emptied again
The seed I receive I will sow
But, most of all remember that no matter what season of life your are in today, you have a reason to sing & worship God. He is still God of your little universe, smack dab in the middle of your career as a mom.
