Educating Leaders - No Conveyor Belt Education Here!

July 8, 2008 - Bryan, Texas at midnight

We arrived at our home around midnight, but couldn't get in the back door.  Ashley left the key in a lockbox for us, but I couldn't get the door open.  Steve tried all the windows with no success.  We put our dog in the backyard and headed to a hotel.  Every hotel we tried was booked...absolutely no rooms available.  Finally, Hampton Inn gave me a list of 5 hotels that still had rooms, so we finally got one.  What a way to start back in Bryan.

July 7, 2008 - Old Town Trail

On the original site of Cody, now stands a recreated road in the Old West.  They moved old buildings to this site and re-assembled them.  The coolest part of this place is the authenticity of the buildings.  They aren't reproductions of the original buildings; they are the original buildings.  Some of them were cabins that the Hole in the Wall Gang used to hide; you know, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.  One of them was an old school building with desks and a wall size reader in the corner.  The graveyard has the actual remains of 5-6 men from that area.  They re-buried them in this location.  One of them is the guy from Jeremiah Johnson, a Robert Redford movie.

Once again, Steve had a blast.  He loves Old West history!

We finished our Cody visit by 11am and were on our way to Texas!

July 6, 2008 - Cody, Wyoming

Steve is in heaven here.  We visited 3 of the Buffalo Bill museums.  Of course, the first one was the fire arms exhibits.  It's the largest collection of fire arms, probably in the world.  We saw 1500 guns and the last sign said there were 1200 on the lower level.  Even Steve said he had seen enough...whew!

Buffalo Bill was an interesting character.  I wish Ashley had been here because she read a few biographies of Annie Oakley as a young girl.  There was an entire exhibit of her.

We finished our visit in the art museum.  My favorite were the Russell exhibits.  Some of the coolest parts were the letters he wrote to friends.  Each of them had a mini-painting or drawing on them.  I would love to receive a letter like that.  You can see an example on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Charles-Russell-Word-Painter-1887-1926/dp/0810937646

After the museum, we visited the Irma Hotel where a C&W band was playing on the front porch.  We spent a couple of hours listening to them.  It was relaxing and fun!  We even danced a bit.

Finally, we ended our day with a thick, juicy steak at Cassies, a building with lots of history.

July 5, 2008 - On the road to Texas

I was surprised how fast Chipman Movers loaded the truck.  They were finished by 1:45pm.  By 2:30 we had signed all our papers and we were ready to go.  Well, almost!  We had to say good-bye to our next-door neighbors and get one last hug from their 3-year old son.

By 3:00 we were on the road, headed for Montana.  Tomorrow, we plan to stop in Cody, Wyoming.  Did you know they have the largest gun collection in the states?  Steve's excited to see that collection.  I'm excited to see the original Remingtons & Russells.  I like any & all art.  (Well, except for modern, "look" art)

I'll try and post some pics later.

One last note...if you ever need to hire movers in the northwest, be sure to call Chipman United Moving.  We've had the best experience with their company, from the sales person and office assistant to the packers/loaders and the truck driver.  They are extremely professional, courteous and clean.

July 5, 2008 - We're Headed to Texas

Steve and I are sitting on the back deck enjoying the cool crisp morning.  Actually, I'm wearing a sweatshirt because it's fairly cold this morning.

As I type this post, Chipman United Moving is loading the truck with all our belongings.  On Wednesday & Thursday, a crew packed our entire house into boxes...pretty amazing since we have a 4 bedroom, 2 office home.  But they finished it by 3 pm on the second day.

Our kids flew home this morning.  Grandpa will pick them up at the airport and take them home.  Steve & I are driving the car (& dog) down to Texas.  What's wrong with this picture???

We are sooo excited to move back home.  The only thing I'll really miss is the cool weather for my morning walks.  Other than that, I'm ready for Texas.

July 2, 2008 - Super Fast, Super Cheap College Education!

Wow! The packers are here and most of our worldly possessions are in boxes! One more day of packing, then celebrating July 4th with friends, then loading the truck on July 5th.

I can't believe it...we're really going home to Texas! It's been a long time.

So, I will be out of pocket for about a week. But I have something to share with you that couldn't wait ...one of my hubby's students has created a REALLY COOL ebook on getting a college degree for HALF the price (actually, for a lot less than half the price!) and in HALF the time!

Her name is Amanda Suryan and she is a homeschooler that got fed up with the secular college scene and decided to take her education into her own hands!

Now, she can show how your child (or someone you know) can get a
4 year degree in half the time at a SUBSTANTIAL SAVINGS in the comfort of your own home!

http://www.8WeeksToProfits.com/DistanceLearning.html

And I know this stuff works because my own daughter will get her
4 year Marketing Degree in about 1-1/2 years! (hmmm ...I wonder why she chose marketing!)

But here's the deal...

Steve is twisting Amanda's arm to raise her prices because she offers so much CONTENT and so many BONUSES ...and because this ebook will save you tons of time, gobs of money and loads of frustration!

So, she is taking my advice. Amanda will RAISE her price on July 4th. So, get it BEFORE July 4th!

http://www.8WeeksToProfits.com/DistanceLearning.html

So, declare your INDEPENDENCE from exorbitant College tuition and take control over your own education...visit the link below and get this AMAZING resource BEFORE the price goes up on July 4th!

Blessings,

Kerry Beck

June 10, 2008 - For the Sake of Summer Fun, Let's End Boredom, Here and Now!

Ahhh.... I'm so bored. You'll never hear that in your house, right?

Tried reading the work of Peter Spier, Bored, Nothing to Do? It talks about two siblings who were so bored to the point their mother takes them outside to quit playing video games and watching TV. While in their garage, they build an full-size airplane and male it fly. Didn't read the book yet?  Pick up a copy today. Whether your 7, 17, 47, it doesn't matter, you'll still enjoy it. That also means I'm reading it again.

Boredom brought about the airplane project in Spier's book. Boredom is a problem among most young people today.  I want to share two solutions to boredom that can offer help you through these summer months.  Feel free to share these with other parents..

Last fall, I came across an article by our local librarian. She said that if a child gets bored it produces creativity. Ponder this for a moment! If they are bored, they will definitely look for something to do. This is where creativity comes in and becomes necessary for your kids to conjure up their own creative projects. The 2 siblings in Spier's books were so bored that soon creativity set in to enable them to build and fly their airplane project.

From this, you can see the importance of providing an environment that stirs up their senses and imagination.  Look for items to stimulate creativity.  These may include simple items like play doh or complicated craft kits that build marshmallow guns.  I tell you boredom will drive them to do something!

If you let them overcome boredom on their own and allow them to come up with creative ideas, you are on your way to solving the summer boredom blues.

Another solution is to let your kids know where you keep all these cool blocks, kits or art supplies.  If all your son does is sit in front of the computer, remind him where your digital camera is.  Encourage him to make a list of pictures he wants to take and let him loose.  Then, show your daughter where the scrapbooking supplies are.  She can make a scrapbook of her brother's pictures.   It's just that simple.

Since moms are so busy, I want to help you this summer.  I have a list which could prove to be successful summer activities for kids.  Usually, I share them with my subscribers, but I want to share it with you, too. You can get your copy of 206 summer fun activites right here:  LINK

Now, you can print it and put it up on the refrigerator door.  Send your child to the frig when they are bored.  Have them choose a number between 1 and 206.  Look up that activity and get started having summer fun.  On a final note, this particular list was sent to me a couple of years ago and even  I can't figure out who gave it to me.

June 3, 2008 - Are Your Kids Bored This Summer?

I just got back from a weekend with Steve and we had so much fun.  If you didn't get my last email, I have been in Texas getting our home ready for our move in July.

Steve & the kids are still in Idaho, so we met for a business meeting in Bethesda, Maryland last weekend.  We stayed for a couple of extra days since we
won't be together for the next 3 weeks (wow...that sounds like a long time).

I wanted to get some pics online, but decided this email was more important for YOU!  I will post some pictures on my blog of our dinner cruise down the
Potomac, our tour of US Naval Academy and a really old, bumpy street in lexandria.

What's up for this summer?  Two things!

1.  You may have received an email about our new Math Adventure Package of living books.  The link on that page was messed up and I am soooo sorry.  I just found out about it yesterday.  Here's the right link:
http://www.CurriculumConnection.net/mathadventure.htm

If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to that link and discover our new math living books!  Have fun reading stories and your kids will learn math concepts without even knowing it!

2.  Summer is just around the corner.  By now, you are probably gearing down from school and getting ready for a fun-filled summer.  But will your kids get bored?

Read my answer to your kids' boredom and 206 cures:
http://curriculumconnection.net/blog/2007/06/26/bored-nothing-to-do-this-summer/

Blessings,
Kerry

ps.  Please share my "Bored, Nothing To Do" with your friends and fellow homeschoolers.  I want it to encourage moms who are too busy to create fun summer activities.

May 28, 2008 - Cure Boredom with this Summer Fun Solutions

I'm outright bored, with nothing do! I know you'll never hear that in your own home!

Ever heard of the book by Peter Spier, Bored, Nothing To Do? It tells us about two brothers who are so bored that their mother brings them outside to spend the afternoon.. While in the garage, they build a plane and fly it. Haven't read the book yet? Then go grab a copy a your local library. It doesn't matter if your 8, 18, 38, you'll still enjoy it. That means I'm going to read it again!

That homemade plane project was hatched out because of boredom. I want to share two solutions to your children's boredom that should have be great for your kids and can provide them with pure summer fun.  I hope that you will also share these with your friends at church, at the pool or at the park.

There was an article by our local librarian last fall. She pointed out that if kids get bored it produces creativity. Think it out. If your kids are bored, they will look for something to do on their own. Creativity is necessary to be able to imagine and come up with your own project. The 2 brothers in Spier's book, Remember them? They were so bored and soon sets in creativity to enable them to build & fly an airplane.

Bearing this in mind, you've got to provide an environment that stimulates your kids' minds. It can be as simple as blocks in the attic or more complex like basketwork or building Lego toys. If your children are bored, they'll use those items to become creative in their play.  Most of the time, young boys and girls don't like being bored so their imagination kicks in with the right environment.

Letting them overcome boredom with their own projects makes you see your child's real passion and interest.

The second solution is to show your kids where these items are when they don't have anything else to do.  If they continually sit in front of the TV, show them the huge box of Legos.  When you see your daughter watching movie after movie, remind her where the art supplies are.  Pretty simple, isn't it?

Moms can't always come up with ready suggestions when your kids are bored. I have list which I share every summer with my subscribers. Well, its not only for my subscribers, I also take time to browse over it and apply it to brighten up the summer activities for my kids.  Here's where you can get a copy of 206 summer fun activities for kids: http://curriculumconnection.net/blog/2007/06/26/bored-nothing-to-do-this-summer/

Once you get your list, print it out for the whole family.  You might tape it to the fridge or putcut out each item to put in a cookie jar. Have your kids choose one when they're starting to get bored. This list was just sent to me some years ago and even I'm not sure where it came from.

May 21, 2008 - Moving Sale

As many of you know, I am finishing seminary and getting ready
to move back to Texas in less than 7 weeks. I can't wait!

But I hate packing. Man, do I hate packing!

But guess what I found. I found a box of 52 videos. Videos of me
teaching about 20 teenagers how to start their own business. As I
picked up one of the videos, it brought me back to the first time
I started teaching business concepts to Christians. I remember
holding several workshops to get enough practice and then hiring
a videographer to tape my last one.

Here's what I taught those teens:

- how to view a business from the biblical perspective.

- the 3 types of businesses and why they are important to know
BEFORE spending hard earned dollars
.

- how to count the costs BEFORE they start a business...thus
saving them time, money and tons of frustration.

- how to come up with profitable and fun business ideas that even
young people can do.

- how to market a new business so you never have to worry about
finding new customers again!

- how to calculate crucial financial numbers that will keep your
business sound, healthy and making a generous profit

- how to price your products and services so you can get the most
out of the hard work that you do

- how to take a physical business to the Internet and beyond.

And best of all, I did this in a fun and entertaining workshop.
In fact, you will see lots of interaction on the videos with the
teens in the workshop. they even share their ideas and concerns
for starting their own businesses!

Now, in the LIVE workshop, I handed every student a workbook. But
I have re-created that workbook on a CD so the students who
watch the video can follow along - just like the ones in the LIVE
workshop.

So, guess what? I'm not planning on doing any more LIVE teen
business workshops. Everything I need to say about the subject is
included in this 4 DVD set plus workbook on CD.

These video sets sell regularly on my web site for $97. In fact,
Andrew Pudewa, the creator of the Institute for Excellence in
Writing (IEW), has bought them for his booth at homeschool
book fairs around the country.

But Andrew has already bought for this season and I don't want to
take these 52 back to Texas. So, I am allowing you to STEAL one
of these video sets from me for $47!!!

That's right. $47! But you had better move SUPER QUICK!. I don't
expect them to last long - in fact, I will be surprised if any of
the 52 video sets are around this time Saturday.

http://www.FamilyEbiz.com/52only

Imagine. Giving your family and your teens the keys to an
entrepreneurial future by getting them this video set. Over 8
hours of instruction complete with workbook on CD that you can
print out.

This can be one of your core subjects this fall!

So act now! I will not be selling them for $47 after these 52 are
gone. The price will sky-rocket back up to $97 and you will lose
out on this singular opportunity. Visit the link below to reserve
your copy now:
==> http://www.FamilyEbiz.com/52only

Blessings,

Stephen Beck
http://www.FamilyEbiz.com/52only

PS...Please don't get angry when the price goes back up to $97
after these 52 sets are completely gone. I have done my best to
warn you!

May 14, 2008 - I’m Sorry….

I'm sorry if I confused you about the goodies I have this week.  I thought I made myself clear, but sometimes when you read something over & over you don't realize when you've actually confused someone.

So, let me try again to explain...

I am giving away free to anyone who signs up . . . my special report on education and my audio workshop.

I love books and I wanted to do something special for National Children's Book Week.  So, I decided to also give away some classic ebooks that I compiled.  These are available to everyone who gets my Raising Leaders package this week

Home School Material

(My previous owners got all those books, too.  I take care of my owners)

>>>  BEFORE YOU QUIT READING . . .

you ought to read what other moms say about Raising Leaders AND why I am giving away the classic books this week.

=============================

Kerry packs the e-book with TONS OF PRACTICAL IDEAS for implementing a leadership education. . .  GRAB A HIGHLIGHTER  or pen and begin to make specific notes of how you’ll raise leaders...not followers!  Diane L (www.classicalscholar.com)

-----------

Thank you for taking the time to put together valuable training material on leadership education. I have been homeschooling 6 years and as far as I can see, there is LITTLE-TO-NOTHING AVAILABLE IN THIS AREA OF EDUCATION that has any practical application for homechooling parents to use in the mentoring of their children.   Cherie (Parent)

----------

I believe one of the most important lessons we teach our kids, alongside the "how to think" and the godly character, is being willing to do things differently--even from others who are doing things differently-to hear His voice and follow your specific calling/passion despite the possibility of failure or ridicule. No true leader makes changes in his world without that willingness and courage. Your materials will  ENABLE MANY MORE TO PUT FEET TO THE RAISING OF LEADERS.  Lynn F (Parent)

===============================

You can see that moms who are in the trenches with their children are soaking up the practical helps in Raising Leaders.  We are meeting a need that no one else is meeting.

WHAT DO CLASSIC BOOKS HAVE TO DO WITH RAISING LEADERS?

For years, I've encouraged parents to use classics to teach their children to lead.  A real leader knows how to think for himself.  He doesn't simply repeat dates and facts.  He uses those facts to solve problems and make a difference for the Lord.

Classics provide the perfect opportunity to read and discuss real life issues, solutions to everyday problems, how to relate to friends who mistreat you and so on.  That's why I'm giving you 7 classic books to start down the path of raising your children to lead - instead of letting them follow the crowd!

You can read all about the 7 classic books (in the big pink box) and how you can make a huge difference in your kids' lives by showing them "how to think" instead of telling them "what to think".  Let your kids grow into Christian leaders who will change the world for Christ.

Go get your free report & workshop here.  Then, read how you can get your 7 free classic books.

Once again, I'm sorry if I confused you in my last email.  I hope this helps you understand our FUN promotion for National Children's Book Week.

Blessings,

Kerry Beck

ps.  Feel free to tell your friends how they can get 7 classics for themselves.  Just copy/paste this email and post it on your blog or your yahoo groups or your forums.

May 12, 2008 - Want some Free Classic Books?

Did you know this week is National Children's Book Week?
Are you ready to celebrate Children's Books?

Yesterday I told you I would send an email telling you how you can get several children classic books for free. That's because I want to celebrate National Children's Book Week (NCBW) with you. I love books, don't you?

I get lots of book publisher promotions, but I rarely participate. They often don't go along with my values. When I saw a week to celebrate Children's Books, I knew I had to do something. So, I pulled together some downloadable classic books that I can give to you.

Are you wondering how you can get your copies?

Let me tell you...

For the past five years, I've been telling you the importance of using classic books as you homeschool. I've written some reports and offered some audio workshops that tell you how to mentor your own children with classics so you give your children a superior education to become leaders of the future.

...Who wants to give your kids an education intended for the poor, like so many schools do? I don't!

-------------------------------------
To help you use classics with your kids... so they don't follow the crowd, I've got a few goodies for you...this week only!

+ Special Report: 4 Keys to Raise Leaders
+ Video: Start School Right
+ 7 Classic ebooks
-------------------------------------

Sounds pretty cool!!!

Some of those classics include
--Famous Men of the Middle Ages
--Men of Iron
--Heidi
-- and other classics you'll love

>>> Look in the BIG PINK BOX on my webpage to see all the classics!

I'll keep this short and let you read how you can get all these items for yourself, as well as how to give your children the BEST education possible so they lead others instead of following the crowd.

Oh yeah...don't forget to sign up for my free report and workshop on this page. After you sign up, you'll be able to read about my books and the classics that I'm giving away this week (It's all in the BIG PINK box down the 2nd webpage).

Blessings,
Kerry Beck

ps. Let me tell you...downloadable classics are the way to go. I just got an estimate for moving our home from Idaho to Texas. They said we would need 75 book boxes...ouch! Ebooks are the way to go.

May 9, 2008 - Has Your Day Gone As Planned?

A few days ago I was reading Isaiah in my quiet time and was struck by the importance of immediate prayer when I receive bad news or my day doesn't go according to my plan.

Do you ever have a day that seems to fall apart?

I had one yesterday!  It started after breakfast when my daughter called from the gas station saying the key wouldn't turn and star the car.  From there it was crazy...call the towing company, find a mechanic who could fix it quickly, lose time and not be able to help my son with his project.  Then every hour I had someone walking through my home . . . moving estimator, then the realtor, then the piano mover.  After a phone interview, I had to start dinner for my daughter's softball team that night.

Did I get much accomplished yesterday?
What was my initial response to my day going awry?

Read how you and I should respond to days like these
