Through Jesus We Can Live For Eternity

Jun. 10, 2008

No, not part five, just a little announcement...

I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST TODAY!!! Yay!

Yes, ladies and gents, I can now legally drive a car or van without an adult seated by my side.

The test went really well, and I have a copy of the paper that tells the stuff that they rate your driving on.
(For all of you learner permit people...) For the car, you basically just have to have everything in working order (ie brake lights, blinkers, etc).  Ok, when you get in the car, you MUST put on your seatbelt (and make sure that the instructor has his on) before you put the key in the ignition. Otherwise they will fail you right then and there. (That's just a hint, they don't tell you that) ;-)
Adjust the mirrors even if they're perfect... this is important because they won't tell you to adjust them but they will notice if you don't.
Next, you have to follow instructions (it's helpful if you say "Ok" or something to let them know that you heard them). You have to have good following distance (don't tailgate), good braking, signaling, you have to stop or be aware of pedestrians, and you have to be alert (so go to bed early the night before you go). (Of course, I went to bed early last night and didn't sleep very well, but...)
Ok, next is the most important things (or "Critical Driving Skills")... Speed, proper lane selection, you must know who has the right of way, traffic controls, baking and parking, and yes, your attitude and emotions fit into this section.
Ok, another hint is make it obvious that you are looking behind you when you are backing up... make it obvious that you are looking at the traffic in the parking lot...  and don't forget to put on your blinker when you're pulling into a parking spot. (That's the only one that I didn't do. I also didn't make it obvious that I was watching the traffic in the parking lot.)

So, I hope that helped, I'm so excited that I got my license! And the picture turned out good too. ;-)
I just took Amy and Kay to the library... it didn't feel too weird.
Ok, well, have a good evening!

P.S. Darby, I don't know how to reach you because I'm not sure if that e-mail address worked.

Hooray, hooray!!! I'm so happy for you!
And the tips are good and helpful for
all us "younger" people (i.e. people who
can't drive - yet!) who will someday have
to take a driver's test.
Get some good rest tonight! :)

Oooh, that is so exciting! I don't know what the laws are on the east coast, but it is such a relief to hear of other young people who haven't got their drivers as soon as possible. I waited a year or two, because I just didn't want to drive. A lot of other homeschoolers I knew, though, went and got their permits as soon as they were able. Where I live, you either have to take drivers ed, and have fifty hours of driving time, or don't take drivers ed and have 100 hours driving time. There was no way my Mom was going to let me do anything in the public school system, including drivers ed, so I have to drive for 100 hours before I can get my license. My Grandpa told me that that is more practice than you have to have to get a pilots license. At least, I think that is what he said.

Anyway, thank you for the tips. They will surely help me! I get nervous whenever I think about taking the test.

Have a very bright, very cheerful day!

Congrats!!!! That's great you passed the test. And thanks for the info. But I don't think our place does that much... =/ My mom and I were watching some people doing the driver's test while waiting for me to get my permit, and they basically just had the people drive around the little shopping center and practice a three point turn - at least of what we could see. hah. I don't know when I'll get my license.

Thanks :D What now? Finishing college. ;P

Congratulations!! :D I know it must be exciting! :)
Thanks for all the tips! I just got my Driver's Handbook today (I start the Drivers' Ed class in two weeks), and added some of your tips (that weren't in the book) in the notes section. :)

Congradulations on getting your license. I am trying to get my permit, those tests are a bugger!! I've taken the permit test 3 times and have come so close to passing, it's insane. :) I want to drive before gas prices go over the hill, ya know?
