About Me

I'm a christian and a wife and a mother of 2 boys whom we've always homeschooled. We live on 6 acres and Dad works from home. Homeschooling provides us our dream lifestyle. Our philosophy is relaxed, eclectic homeschooling, better known as "If it works do it, if it doesn't work stop doing it." Spring break - Drumheller trip

Well we are back and had a wonderful spring break trip to Drumheller.  This is what we did:

Tuesday we checked in and immediately went swimming (a major part of our theme during this week).  We went out for dinner at this cute Bistro that had all their tables painted with jokes etc and shelacked a great distraction for the kids while we waited for our meal.  The highlight was an 8 pound Mammoth Burger that was huge, obviously.  To work that mammoth burger off we then went to the suspension bridge which they all loved (my Mom would have been freaking) and climbed an ENOURMOUS “mountain”.  Noah found some fresh dinosaur tracks in the mud (I think they were doggy tracks but he insists they were dinosaur tracks) – the kids had mud on them from head to toe….luckily we had a blanket for the seat in the car ….back to the hotel for more swimming.

On Wednesday we hit the dinosaur museum http://www.tyrrellmuseum.com/  – always great fun.  A couple of their exhibits were closed down for renovations which is actually exciting as it hasn't changed much over the years that we've been going, so now we are looking forward to going back again to see what new things they will have.  I’m really grateful that Josh and Jesse both brought their own money as they bought out the gift shop, including “mood” rings….too funny.

After the museum we went to the towns info office where they have this HUGE T-Rex that you climb up into his mouth through the inside -- LOTS of stairs and they did this 2 or 3 times at least.  Jesse got some great pictures that really show how high it was and what a view it was from up there.  Noah thought it was too "bouncy".

I was exhausted so we ordered pizza in and then….more swimming. The kids REALLY loved the waterslide of course and Noah is now swimming on his own (with a life preserver).  Noah also met more people than I will ever meet in my lifetime…..and most of them cute older girls.

Angy and I got some knitting tea time in that evening in the hotel lounge area that was exceptionally decorated with big BIG comfy leather chairs and a fire place.  The kids amused themselves with movies and cartoons in the room.  Of course Jesse brought his knitting down and joined us as well.

Thursday?  Guess what – more swimming before checkout!  Then we went to a playground and had a picnic lunch.  It was right along the river so Josh and Jesse did some exploring and -- no kidding -- found an x box 360 that had been damaged and washed up ….we are thinking from a recent flood?

When the kids were ready we drove home from the playground and made it almost all the way home  (1/2 hour from home) and HAD to make a Dairy Queen stop just to make it the rest of the way. Ha ha.

My camera died (as usual, I really need to get some fresh batteries) but Jesse took over 100 pictures with his camera!  So maybe he’ll share ;).

It was a nice little trip and I have to say the kids were REALLY well behaved.  But I am glad to be home.

We took Jesse home yesterday and then Joshua started his scuba certification Friday night which will continue all day Saturday and Sunday and Monday night, so more driving back and forth but I’m thinking I’ll sit and watch (and knit).

I do feel refreshed enough from the trip to tackle some household chores and I'd like to get a chance to sit and write and think and process some more on our plans for next year and researching resources etc.

Spring is a time of renewal but with the white flakes falling as I type this I have to remember that spring is also a time of two steps forward (renewal) and one step back (just to get perspective again).

OK I'm off to grab another cup o jo and catch up on emails and blog reading.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
