• Dec. 25, 2006 - My Husband's Christmas Poem 2006

Posted in Intros and Misc

Merry Christmas to loved ones both near and far,

We send you our love wherever you are.

This year on our farm started off with a bang

As the Lord added another special boy to our gang.

Micah Howard was born in January this year

and now is standing up to things without fear.

We enjoyed nice long visits with Grandma Cordell and Great Grandpa Browne

And this summer Bryan, Leona, and Jordyn came to our town.

It was red headed Jordyn who changed our role

as this new Grandma and Grandpa’s hearts she stole.

Back to Tucson they left on a run

and now into the Army Bryan has gone.

Several visits by phone with Jeremy we’ve had

From Hawaii he calls to update his dad.

One thing from this year he has shared

was the successful 10K bicycle race that he dared.

Hawaii’s weather they love but the cost of living is high

so he and Christina intend to give Oregon another try.

17 year old Rebecca everyday keeps going

and now for Christmas gifts she’s been doing some sewing.

In addition to milking she’s a huge help with our littlest guys

she enables Lynn to work on other projects with the time that she buys.

Aaron and Isaac have been going to work once a week each

The pool cleaning business I’ve been trying to teach.

On the farm, after their studies, they help to care for

the goats, the chickens, the guineas and more.

Molly at eight has gotten real good at reading

So a little less help with her school books she’s needing.

She sorts all the laundry, feeds and waters the dogs,

and hundreds of bounces on our trampoline she logs.

Caleb continues to show he’s quite bright

He’s learning to read simple words by sight.

He empties wastebaskets; he feeds cats day and night,

He really thinks dressing like dad is alright.

Noah is talking and counts to fourteen

In my arms when I’m home he’s usually seen.

He can tell you the sounds of every alphabet letter

And at reciting his favorite videos he keeps getting better.

The five oldest here surprised us last night with a skit

By acting out The Christmas Story they had rehearsed quite a bit.

“Secret Service Agents” we’ve all become now,

doing the chores of others without them knowing somehow.

Three litters of kittens born: orange, tabby, and black

have yielded four good “mousers” patrolling out back.

The kids have marveled at each lump of fur

That grows into a cat they soon can chase after.

We’re up to 14 goats now with more on the way

And we’ve gotten as much as 4 gallons of milk each day.

Lynn makes goat yogurt and soft cheeses in more than one flavor

It’s the one called Texas Ranch that most of our children savor.

Isaac helps Rebecca milk and I built another milk stand,

A feed room and shelters were added as we continue to expand.

A thought occurred to me when Lynn turned forty in December

She has shared half her life with me, and what a half to remember.

Salvation through Jesus, 7 more kids, and teaching homeschool

New traditions, digital memories, Texas farming, her plate’s been full.

God keeps blessing us with awesome new life

Through it all I’ve been glad for Lynn as my wife.

Pool cleaning, bottled water delivery, taxes, and farming,

Wearing so many hats some days it’s alarming.

I’m grateful our Lord has kept me employed

For His abundant providence we are overjoyed.

We wish each one a great Christmas and Happy New Year

Full of love, happiness, adventure, and cheer.

May God richly bless “y’all”!!!

Harold, Lynn, Rebecca, Aaron, Isaac, Molly, Caleb, Noah, and Micah

"For there is born to you this day in the city fo David a Savior,
who is Christ the Lord."
Luke 2:11

• May. 19, 2006 - Help me find - evangelism

Posted in Intros and Misc

Several years ago I read a study. It showed the differences in evangelizing a child vs a woman vs a man. Basically showing the greastest results when men are evangelized. I can't find that study. Can anyone point me towards it? My dh wants it for his *files*.

This is one of those annoying things you spends hours *googling* different phrases trying to find....

Thank you!

• May. 15, 2006 - Tired today and a bit drained

Posted in Intros and Misc

It was a l--o--n--g weekend filled with good, bad, and middling. Our oldest doe Gypsy is ill. I think we finally settled on hypocalcemia or milk fever as a diagnosis. One friend suggested entero... but pretty sure that is not it. So this entailed 2 trips to town by my incredibly sweet dh (who also stopped at Sonic for me for a chicken sandwich, fries, and a Rt 44 cherry limeade since he KNEW I had not eaten), spending $$ earmarked for work boots and a computer desk on goat meds, lots of trips out to medicate, take temps (ugh), and baby her. She has improved some and did not go any further down hill. Praising the Lord and thanking him for my group of goat experts and their willingness to help! Sharon thank you for the phone calls Sat and thank you Vickie and Kaye for all your help on the board and through email. Anyone with dairy goats.... this forum is a blesssing - http://dairygoatsplus.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=1

Besides caring for Gypsy Saturday, I spent time getting ready for Mother's Day. Dh promised the boys root beer floats if they finished the doe area that day so I needed to make ice cream (we do not buy ice cream, but rather make our own - recipe below). I also got a roast all ready to slow cook overnight, made a nice baked cheesecake from our own eggs and goats cheese, and did lots of laundry (Mt Neverest).

Mother's Day - Dh had asked what my hopes/expectations were for this day and I said... a day of *farm work* and a nice massage. I got both!

We got up and dh made coffee while I prepped goat meds (he even made mine first - I am off caffeine). I had my first cup while filling multiple syringes. Becca and I went out and dosed Gypsy and took her temp. She is fine with all the injectibles, but hates the orals and the temp taking. I had my second cup while loading the washer.... Mt Neverest again. And my third while checking in on the computer, nursing a little one, and enjoying the 2 slices of cinn raisin toast Isaac made me.

Then the fun began... NOT. LOL We decided to start with disbudding Toffee & Coco (burning the horn buds off so they can't hurt themselves or each other with horns later). These 2 girls were a bit older than we'd like to be doing this, but I was unable to reach the local goat lady for help... so had to wait until my newly purchased iron arrived on Sat. Dh had done it under someone elses direction before... but this was our first time solo'ing and we did not have a disbudding box. We got them done.... and we'll see. We also went ahead and *banded* Sausage to turn him into a wether. Not our first choice on methods, but at this time the only choice available to us. By the time this was all done and all had recovered we decided to just do an early lunch... the roast I slow cooked followed by the cheesecake.

The rest of the day was spent on farm work. Molly, Caleb, and Noah played in the yard, Becca watched Micah and held down the house, Aaron & Isaac finish finished the doe area (they had come close enough to earn the root bear floats the night before) and mulched some garden beds for me, Dh put up almost 330' of new fencing to give us a nice big browse yard for the goats, and I did a walk and tidy and pick up, put in all my new hose guides in the garden,  worked on pacing off some of our new projects (new yard for Max-dog, expanding the doe yard, new buck yard, and new turkey yard), and continued to care for Gypsy.

We had leftovers or crackers and cheese for dinner followed by the second half of the cheesecake... and I did get my massage. It was quite a weekend.

Oh! And for Mother's Day I was blessed with -

8 Cadbury caramel eggs from Isaac

a bag of Ghiradelli chocolate caramels from Aaron

$$ towards dinner out or take out with dh from Becca

flowers from the yard from Caleb & Molly

lots of smiles & cuddles from Noah & Micah

and dh... says my new all -fridge coming Tuesday is my Mother's Day... that is great! I am thrilled. (I'll share my *Sears Epic* later)

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream (in a Cuisinart counter top electric freezer)

into a 1 qt jar or container WITH a lid add -

3/4 c sugar

1 1/2 c heavy whipping cream

1 1/2 c goats milk (if using grocery store milk do 1c milk to 2c cream)

1 T real vanilla extract

shake WELL

start freezer, pour in mix, wait 30min or so viola`, scoop into covered container using rubber scrapers

note: vanilla does better if you freeze it 1-2 hrs before serving

• Jan. 31, 2006 - Never say never - first blog

Posted in Intros and Misc

Well I said I'd never blog.. and yet here I am with a blog. I finally could not resist. I am hoping it will help me to keep better track of all the blessings of our family life.

To introduce us a bit... I am Lynn married for over 17 years to a most wonderful husband (Harold). We are blessed so far with 9 dc on this earth - Jeremy (23 - living in HA), Bryan (almost 20 - living in AZ), Rebecca (16), Aaron (12), Isaac (10), Molly (7), Caleb (almost 4), Noah (almost 2), and Micah (12 days). We have been homeschooling since Nov. 1992... over 13 years now. We homeschool using mostly BJU curr. We also use Easy Grammar, Mystery of History, and Wordly Wise.

In June of 2004 we moved from San Diego County to 11 acres in Deep East TX. What a blessing! We love it here! Since the move we have added chickens (layers & broilers), guineas, 3 dogs, and La Mancha dairy goats. It has been a learning experience. We had a garden last year and hope to double it's size this year.

I tend to be a very organized and scheduled person in many things... I love lists, charts, and schedules.... except for babies and toddlers. So we flex within our schedules so we always meet the needs of our little ones.

My dh wears several hats. Pool man (we started our own family pool cleaning business), water store guy (he works for a water store part time), and tax man (during tax season). We love the flexibility this allows our family. He is blessed to be able to include our two middle sons in this and each works with dad one day a week and schools year round 4 days a week.

I think I better wrap this up now... Micah wants to nurse and I need to oversee some of the evening chores.
