ANOTHER UPDATE

3:47 PM, Jun. 20, 2008 .. 3 comments .. Link
Have I ever mentioned that I hate to move?
We closed on our house June 5th during a hail storm.
Mountain Man had gone with us and since we were driving my brother's
car MM tried to get it under cover but was unable to so he drove over
a sidewalk and as close to a building as possible.  Thanks to his quick
thinking there were only 4 dinks.  My big honkin car didn't fare so well.
The house we bought has an unfinished basement and without that space
it is  TO small for us.  We do have plans to finish it out in the near future.
After closing on our house we took the key and went over to it.
Guess what we found in our DRY basement?  You're right, it was wet from the big rain.
Now the seller had told us more than once that the basement was dry and it was dry
the three times we looked at it before getting the keys.
Needless to say it is/was stressing me out big time.  With MM's asthma the last thing
we need is a damp hole under us, not to mention the fact that he plans to live down
there when it is finished.  We will need to do some dirt work around the basement
windows, replace some of them and Steve already put covers over them.
Since covering them we've had a dry basement even though it's rained so I'm praying
that it will be an easy fix.
I'm going for a rustic look in my house which can be tricky since there is a fine line
between rustic and trashy .  We decided to refinish the 51 year old woodwork.
We haven't taken it down to bare wood except in the places where someone's initials were
carved or it was just really bad.  Some of the wood has refused to take new stain...adding
to that rustic look I'm after (whatever).  I quit counting after we went around the wood
for the 11th time (don't ask).  We had hoped to have the house all done by the time the
hardwood floor restoration guys were scheduled...yeah right.  We did finish the woodwork
in the rooms that have hardwood floors.  The crew showed up yesterday and called Steve
to say that they could not do anything because there is no 220 hook up in the house
That created a scramble for an electrician.  One was found and he rigged a 220 for them to use but in the process it stole from some of our other sources such as the kitchen light.  We are told it will be restored when they are finished with the job.  The bathroom is ready to put a surround shower in and then finish the wood, walls and a new counter top.
The kitchen needs to be thrown out into the yard.
 I think
I'd prefer a camp kitchen over the existing mess until we can replace it.
The moving truck is scheduled soon and the house isn't ready.  So I guess we'll
put our stuff in the center of the rooms and finish the ceilings and walls around them.
Hey, are we having fun yet??
On another note MM's health is not good but getting better.
The long story short is that he will NOT be returning to the mountains this summer.
He is dealing with several issues and one of them is that he's borderline Mono which is
probably why he isn't bouncing back like he has in the past.
Steve is in the middle of harvest which is not the best time to be remodeling a house
and moving.  Sarah is working at a Christian Tea Room for the summer.
Several  of our friends and family members have been employed there and she has always
wanted to.  God was so good to her during this moving crisis by allowing her to work there.
She said that dressing up pretty and going to work is so different from wrangling cows!!
My doctor loaned me a therapy machine that transmits a low current to my brain stem
releasing endorphins (a very good thing to have extra of right now) and it stops the muscles
from going into spasms and becoming inflammed.  That has enabled me to do the remodeling
work that otherwise would have been impossible for me.
Geesh, other than the above nothing is happening around here!!

UPDATE ON OUR MOVE

7:51 AM, Jun. 2, 2008 .. 3 comments .. Link
Much has happened in the past few weeks.
We are still living with my brother and his wife which is next door to my parents.
Mountain Man had to return home because his asthma escalated to the point
that he couldn't handle it without meds.  He sadly came home but felt God
telling him  "trust me".  We are doing rescue meds, juicing veggies, proper nutrition
and searching/praying for a doctor that will help me holistically.  He moved
into grandmas basement while we wait on our house to be ready.
My nephew's apartment building was hit by a micro burst.  I had never heard of
such a thing.  It is a cloud of wind with gusts of over 100 mph.  It came directly
down on his building taking out the roof, a wall and ceilings.  His was the basement
apartment 3 levels down and he was flooded out.  He is also living in my parents
basement.  His brother and family have been living in the basement for a few months
while they were selling and buying a different house.  That makes 6 people in 2 bedrooms plus my parents upstairs!  There are 5 of us at my brother's.
We are cozy and grateful that we have a family that can pull together in times
of need.
Concerning Sarah's horse.  We finally were able to get him moved, it was the third attempt but he loaded in less than 10 minutes this time!! Prince is with friends
of our family.  He can stay there until we are able to get him sold.  Sarah and I
both just bawled when she said good-bye and he left the farm.
We are suppose to close on our house this week and then as quick as possible
get enough work done on it that we can move in.  The rest of the remodel can
happen over time and when Steve is not in his busy season.
Waiting is not my strong trait but again I'm in a situation where I get
to practice waiting...sigh.
It's good for me but honestly how many of us like what is good for us?

IT WAS BARBIE PINK

8:09 AM, May. 25, 2008 .. 2 comments .. Link
I was driving to an appointment the other day
when all of a sudden beside me was this big honkin'
Barbie Pink Dodge Ram 3500.
The gal driving it was sitting up tall and beautiful with her
long hair blowing, sunglasses on and talking on her cell phone.
She had a lariat hanging in her window
her name written fancy on the side door and
stenciled paint horses on the tail gate.
It made me

Yes, I have fallen off the edge of the world

11:31 AM, May. 17, 2008 .. 3 comments .. Link
Much has happened and continues to happen in my life.
In February my husband applied for a transfer.
In March it went through.
In April he moved in with my brother and his wife and started his new job.
The middle of May Mountain Man headed west again for the summer
and my daughter and I moved into my brothers to be with Steve.
Sometime in June our house is supposed to close that we are buying
and we will quickly work on the remodel that needs done
before we move in.  The rest will happen over time.
Last weekend we loaded a 26' truck with the farm stuff.
We were able to bring all the animals except Prince who
refused to load and after almost 2 hours of that nonsense we
left him in the pasture with water and the neighbors promise to check on him.
My dad was driving the U-haul, Steve was pulling the horse trailer,
MM had his trooper loaded and mom and I were loaded in my big honking car.
About an hour down the road MM has car trouble and long story short has
to leave it for the tow truck to pick up.  We unload his trooper into the
stall that Prince was supposed to be in (do you think that's why he wouldn't load)
and continue on our way arriving 5 hours later than schedule
The next day MM's trooper is fixed and we head back to get it.
He makes it to the mountains without any trouble and we are
praising God that the problem happened the way it did and not on his way
to the mountains.
Steve, Sarah and one of MM's friends headed back today to load that horse.
This is move number 17 in almost 31 years for us.  I'm good at throwing things
in a box but moving a farm AND a household is not fun.
We will no longer be country mice.  We bought a house on the edge of town.
When we stand at the end of the driveway we can see a wheat field across
the highway...sigh.  It has been 14 years since we've lived in town.
Sarah has no recall of what it is like.
Her horses will have to stay 20 minutes away at my parents.
In the beginning this move was rating as the second hardest I've ever made.
It has now climbed to the top of the chart as the most difficult
I won't whine to you with all the details but I would ask for prayer
if we cross your mind (especially for Sarah)
that details and emotions will come together for us.
I have walked with my Lord enough years to know that everything will work out.  It's just walking through it all.

MSG, MIGRAINES AND ME part 3

8:11 AM, Apr. 23, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link
A year ago in April I quit eating sugar with the only
exception being Stevia which is a natural sugar that
does not spike cravings for sweets.
Since October which is when I found out my enemy is
MSG I have chosen to radically change the way I eat.
I started with a 4 day fast.  (The Miracle of Fasting by Paul G Bragg)
I have continued to fast 24 hours each week since then.
Next I started juicing vegetables.
(Fresh Vegetable & Fruit Juices by N.W. Walker D. Sc)
Basically this is what I eat.
  • raw unsalted nuts
  • an occasional egg either fried or scrambled
  • fruit
  • vegetables-steamed, raw or juiced
  • individual spices never a package of mixed flavors
  • olive or coconut oil
  • brown rice or oatmeal
  • I drink a mixture of apple cider vinegar with Stevia
  • rice milk
A simple list of what I do not eat is
  • canned or packaged food
  • bread
  • condiments
  • meat (maybe someday but not at this point)
  • white flour
  • sweets
  • dairy
Toxic Acid Crystals Make Joints Grind
Try this simple test.
Roll your head round and round.  Do you hear a grating sound?
If you do it is deposits of toxic acid crystals that are accumulating on
the uppermost bone of your spine which is the Atlas.
The Atlas is the location in my neck where my migraines start.
When this joint is inflamed or out of alignment I can not function!
Fasting helps dissolve these crystals.  By fasting 1 day a week I will have fasted 52 days in a year.

MSG attacks the thyroid causing hypothyroidism!
The past 3 years my thyroid has slowed to an occasional sputter.
Even though I was taking medication for it I continued to gain weight and I had the energy of a slug.
Since I no longer consume MSG my thyroid has started functioning again and without trying I have lost 25 pounds!  I have high hopes of getting off
the medications in the future.
I can honestly say that I feel as if I am coming alive.
Pain is receding and energy is flowing through my entire body.

This new way of living restricts me from eating out and
my list looks simple until you try to prepare a typical meal
without MSG.
Yet after having been sick for so many years it is a small trade off
to feel human again.

MSG, MIGRAINES, AND ME part 2

6:03 PM, Apr. 13, 2008 .. 2 comments .. Link
MSG is the abbreviation for monosodium glutamate.
This  is a food additive that is used for flavor.
It is also used as a growth enhancer for crops.
The only way to be sure you are not eating it is to buy
organic or grow your own food.
This wicked ingredient is found in almost every thing
that is canned, packaged and often times frozen.
It goes by a long list of names.  Only the bravest of companies
will actually list it by name on the label.
I recently bought some sausage that had a big label stating that
it was MSG free.  That turned out to be a partial truth.
The truth was they had not added it directly but it was added into
other ingredients!  If I had not know what to look for I would have
been under seige from it.
This is a short test to check yourself for MSG reactions.

Have you been tested for, suffer from, and found little relief from any of the following conditions?

1. Severe headache 12. Shortness of breath, chest pains, asthma 23. Slowed speech
2. Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting 13. Swelling, pain, or numbness of hands, feet, jaw 24. Chronic bronchitis-like symptoms, allergy reactions, dry cough, hoarseness or sore throat
3. Irregular heart beat or blood pressure, racing heart 14. Pain in joints or bones 25. Heavy, weak feeling in arms and legs
4. Depression or mood change, bipolar, SAD 15. Flushing or tingling in face, chest, pressure behind eyes 26. Irritable bowel or colitis
5. Abdominal pain, cramps, bloating, colitis, IBS 16. Gagging reflex or difficulty swallowing 27. Attention deficit disorder, anxiety attacks, rage, panic attacks
6. Balance problems, dizziness, or seizures, mini-strokes 17. Hyperactivity, behavioral problems 28. Neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's, fibromyalgia, MS, Parkinson's
7. Tenderness in localized areas, neck, back, etc. 18. Chronic post nasal drip 29. Pressure behind eyes or on head, neck, shoulders
8. Sleep disorders 19. Skin rash, itching, hives 30. ADD, ADHD, Rage Disorder
9. Blurred vision or difficulty breathing 20. Bloated face, dark circles under strained eyes 31. Asthma
10. Chronic fatigue or sleepiness 21. Extreme thirst or dry mouth 32. Weight problems, obesity, hypoglycemia
11. Excessive perspiring or shuddering and chills 22. Difficulty concentrating and poor memory

If any of these conditions plague you, you may be a victim of the myth that monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a safe food additive. The truth is that the average person eats much more glutamate than what is considered to be a safe and normal amount in the typical American diet. MSG is in everything from crackers and soda pop to vitamins and toothpaste.

There are some scary things on that list.

Here is another list that gives different names MSG hides behind.

Foods always contain free glutamate when these words are on the label:

MSG Gelatin Calcium Caseinate
Monosodium glutamate Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP) Textured Protein
Monopotassium glutamate Hydrolyzed Plant Protein (HPP) Yeast Extract
Glutamate Autolyzed Plant Protein Yeast food or nutrient
Glutamic Acid Sodium Caseinate Autolyzed Yeast
Vegetable Protein Extract

Foods made with the following products often contain free glutamate.

Malted Barley (flavor) Natural Flavors, Flavors, Flavoring Modified food starch
Barley malt Reaction Flavors Rice syrup or brown rice syrup
Malt Extract or Flavoring Natural Chicken, Beef, or Pork, Flavoring "Seasonings" (Most assume this means salt, pepper, or spices and herbs, which sometimes it is.) Lipolyzed butter fat
Maltodextrin, dextrose, dextrates Soy Sauce or Extract "Low" or "No Fat" items
Caramel Flavoring (coloring) Soy Protein Corn syrup and corn syrup solids, high fructose corn syrup
Stock Soy Protein Isolate or Concentrate Citric Acid (when processed from corn)
Broth Cornstarch fructose (made from corn) Milk Powder
Bouillon Flowing Agents Dry Milk Solids
Carrageenan Wheat, rice, corn, or oat protein Protein Fortified Milk
Whey Protein or Whey Anything enriched or vitamin enriched Annatto
Whey Protein Isolate or Concentrate Protein fortified "anything" Spice
Pectin Enzyme modified "anything" Gums (guar and vegetable)
Protease Ultra-pasteurized "anything" Dough Conditioners
Protease enzymes Fermented "anything" Yeast Nutrients
Lecithin Gluten and gluten flour Protein powders: whey, soy, oat, rice (as in protein bars shakes and body building drinks)
Amino acids (as in Bragg's liquid amino acids and chelated to vitamins) Algae, phytoplankton, sea vegetable, wheat/ barley grass powders Artificial flavor (wheat extract: Senomyx)

It is a challenge to shop for safe food but I'm learning.

In part 3 I'll explain how I shop and what I actually can eat.
