I'm really tired
I'm sitting here updating, wondering why I'm updating when I should really be in bed. Well, for now you can just ignore that, and be glad I'm doing it, right?
Yesterday just about everyone in my family got lumped together in one big birthday outing and went ice skating. We had a ton of fun, and had a lot of people who came along with us.
"Help us!!!"
Christina doing her best Michelle Kwan impression.
Alex and I--notice our matching sweatshirts???
Christina and I, very happy
The whole group on the ice. Needless to say, we were pretty much the only people on the rink.
Today was the Austin Rhetoric Club's One Day Workshop, and in my humble opinion, I think it went really well. I taught Stock Issues and Logical Fallacies with my debate partner, Brian (who agreed to put up with me for a year--yay!). Anyway, I think that this might have been the biggest workshop so far, which is always nice. We had around 10 students in each group who rotated through 3 classes each flight. I was really wondering this morning if I would make it, since we stayed at ARC late last night and I got up at five this morning. But, as the day wore on, I figured out that I would survive. On a side note, I came away $10 richer from a speech competition that the student teachers did. I did impromptu in front of everyone with a pretty horrible topic from Gov. Sarah Palin. Drumroll please...
"The only difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom is lipstick."
I figured out afterwards that I wasn't really on topic. But, at least I has something to say.
On a happy note, my dear friend Lydia finally got home today *starts singing the hallelujah chorus*.
And last, a cute shot from Taco Bell tonight...

Well, it's been almost two weeks since my last entry. I felt like I was doing good for a while, and then all of a sudden dropped off. I did have a good excuse though. School officially began last week, and I've been getting lots of other things besides blogging done that are more important when it comes to graduating next year. So, sorry readers, but my high school career is higher on my agenda than my poor blog.
With all that said, I'm updating! Yay! So here's what's been going on around here while I've been gone.
Debate officially began about a week and half ago! I'm so excited about this year already. We spent the debate portion of our meeting brainstorming and discussing different things about India-US relations. Now, I realize that to most, that doesn't sound like the most thrilling of subjects. All I ask is that you bear with me over the next *stops and counts* *wow, this is going to be a long time* 10 months as I'll probably be writing about it for a while. I got The World is Flat for about the third time from the library and I'm trying my best to get through it. It's just a little intimidating...
Anyway, I'll get through it one of these days.
Last week we were able to go over to a friend's house (who's moving away *sniff* we'll miss you!!!) to ride horses. I ended up not riding because the sun was setting and everything looked beautiful and I had a camera and...well, you get the idea.
Katy and Hannah got to come along to play.
Old wood on a cow trailer--very cool
I guess I should post at least one of the horse, right?
Well, after riding around for a while, Sheryl's mom suggested that she and Beth go try to round up a sheep that was on their property and needed to be over at the neighbor's house. Thus began a long, exhausting, and extremely fun activity that took quite a while. We chased that sheep (I say we, I got way more of a workout than the girls on horses because I RAN around that property for an hour) till the sunset, literally. We even had help from a guy next door who was running around with Sheryl's lasso trying to get poor sheep where it needed to go.
The evil sheep--glowing eyes and everything
Finally, we had victory. The sheep was caught, and even when it was being dragged over to the other yard for it's own good, it was still pulling on the rope essentially strangling itself. At this point, Sheryl made the interesting observation that it was sort of enlightening how we are compared to sheep in the Bible. But, when you think about it, it's pretty much true. We laughed about it for a while--hey, you never know when you'll learn something new about human nature, right?
Other big news? Oh yes. Beth is sweet sixteen now! Unfortunately my camera is being completely stupid and won't let me download the pictures at this point, so hop on over to the birthday girl's blog to see some. I will add though that we discovered a new family hobby--dancing. I started wondering what the neighbors would say if they lived close enough to look in our windows. But yes, it was actually quite entertaining. We came to the conclusion that we should all learn how to square dance. Anyone up to try?
Well, that just about wraps things up here for now.

Wacky Wednesday: the sequel

Welcome back to the second edition of Toni's random ramblings. That's right, it's Wacky Wednesday again. So here we go...
The drama is finally over. I think I was more nervous than Debbie Phelps during the last relay (okay, so it wasn't that bad, but you get the idea). But the Michael Phelps successfully went 8 for 8 in gold medals. Not like anyone didn't know--every day they've got a new interview playing it seems like. Needless to say, we were all somewhat excited.
This also made me happy last night...
Shawn Johnson finally got her gold medal on balance beam!
Moving on to more, uh, personal matters...
We just got back last night (in time for gymnastics, of course) from a quick trip to see lots of family in West Texas. It seems like we can't stay home for longer than a week or too, and I feel like I've spent my summer riding in the car. Even though it was a short weekend trip, we had a great time. Here's a few shots from the last couple of days...
Beth and I got our applications filled out to be sent in to From the Top, the show we're auditioning to be on with Lydia and Josh. I think we finally decided on a name for our ensemble. Everyone ready?
Announcing the Heartsong Quartet! Like it?
Okay, what else? I need to make good use of my weekly randomness allowance. Wacky Wednesday only comes once a week you know.
Oh I know. Debate! That's right, debate starts on Friday! At the beginning of last year I wrote up a post in honor of my "last" year in the NCFCA. Well, thankfully that last year was put on hold, and my parents are generous enough to let me drive them crazy one more year. I'm really looking forward to learning more about India, reading The World is Flat hopefully straight through this time, and having a great last year with my NCFCA friends.
Last, but certainly not least, I have a new movie that I'm liking a lot. Anyone out there seen the movie Signs?
Toni's short and sweet movie review: This was one of the scariest movies I had seen, and yet there really wasn't anything that scary in it. Most of the scariness comes from silence and suspense. Okay, okay, it is an alien movie. But it has a great message. One of my favorite lines from the movie was "What if nothing is a coincidence?" While not outwardly referring to God, it was seriously implied, and the whole movie was built around certain events that seemed coincidental and turned out to be providential. Also while being at times extremely scary, there were also some very humorous elements which I loved. Quick word of caution: most of the time we watch our movies on a TV guardian which takes out bad language (one of the greatest inventions in my humble opinion). This time we didn't, and there was some bad language in it, so be forewarned.
And with that, Wacky Wednesday has been completed.

Happy Birthday Buddy!
My little brother turned eight years old on Wednesday. We celebrated the day by going bowling (where I scored a measly 54 and 52-yuck!) and then came home to eat cake and open presents.
Michael's presence in our family is definitely appreciated. Think about it: without him, none of us girls would ever have the experience of having a brother. Yes, I admit it, sometimes he drive us crazy, but we still love him. When Michael was first born, he gave us all quite a scare. To this day I don't know exactly what went wrong, but he ended up on a ventilator because of serious problems with his lungs for several days with the possibility of not making it. Thankfully, God spared his life, and today, I can very honestly say Michael has no problems whatsoever with his lungs.
Happy birthday Buddy! We love you!
If you'd like, you can leave Michael a somewhat belated birthday note, and I'll be sure to share them with him.

USA!!! USA!!!
Yes, it's that time of the year. Actually, that time of the, um, four years? Okay, however you want to say it, it's the Summer Olympics, and I'm feeling really patriotic. I'm a huge sports fan (even it I don't care for football ), and I have loved watching the Olympics as long as I can remember. So far this year it's been interesting seeing the political side to the games.
This was amazing last night...
It was after 11 and all of the younger kids were asleep, but the rest of us were watching and going nuts. This was the most amazing race I had ever seen--if you missed it, watch the replays!
By the way, did anyone other than me think that President Bush's interview with Bob Costas last night was great?
Q Are you going to go to a few more events before you leave?
THE PRESIDENT: I'm going to swimming here -- if you'd ever let me off this set. (Laughter.)
Q All right. You are dismissed.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, sir.
Q Thank you, Mr. President.
Very interesting and entertaining interview, I loved it! And yes, he made it to watch swimming.
In other news, Danielle left *cries* *sobs* *sniff sniff*. Okay, I'm all right. We had an awesome week, I still can't believe that they pulled off a surprise trip out here. And the good news is that I get to finally visit out there this year!
