Before we started our leaf bud forcing experiment we did some sketches of the Mugo Pine (Pinus mugo) and our wild cherry branch :) Above is K's drawing. You can see the pine needles (next to the wild cherry branch) on the Pinus mugo are bundled two needles to each fascicle and are rigid and curved in shape and on the drawing of the Pinus mugo in the center of the needles is the candle or new growth bud that is waiting to open. So far we haven't had any success with ours and they don't want to be forced open unlike the cherry leaf buds.

These are beautiful! I am thinking about forcing a plum tree branch...but it got so warm today we might as well hang outside to watch! Spring is around the corner it seems!
