My twenty cents keeps moving!

Do you need a flow chart to plan your day?

With 4 overcommitted "involved" kids and only one van, we sometimes need a flow chart to plan our evenings.  Today for example:  Reed had play practice at 4, and I was supposed to be there to take pictures.  Jason had to teach a magic class at 4: 30.  I needed to be back at the house by 4:45 to meet the Ellers, in order to babysit tonight.  Then magic was over at 5:30 and Reed needed to leave play practice to get to a soccer game.  Spenser's game would follow hers at 7:30.  Mom was picking up Sydney and Macy for gymnastics at 6:30.  *Gah!*  I have already promised myself that we will never commit to this much at one time again.  But i am trying to finish this season of soccer without going completely nuts.  Into that flow chart we had to factor in supper (no money for fast food), getting snacks for the soccer team,  and fitting 9 people into a 7 passenger van.

Luckily it all worked out.  The Ellers came later (5:15) and the magic class was cancelled, so it all worked out well.  I made homemade spaghetti and garlic bread and sent sandwiches for Daddy and the 2 soccer players.  I stayed home with the rest, and other than the Ellers being disappointed that the soccer kids weren't home, it turned out to be a low stress evening.

But, stay tuned for Thursday when we have another babysitting, play pratice, soccer night.    Oh and these are the homeschooled kids that I worried about their socialization?

I have a hard time saying no, but I am learning that sometimes a good thing isn't the best thing for me (and my family).  Soccer is good, plays are good, babysitting is good, but we can't necessarily do it all.  It wears us out!  I am planning to drop almost everything this summer.  I haven't decided about piano.  The kids are each going to do a drama camp, but it is one week during the day.  With VBS, a mission trip and (possibly) Boy Scout camp, that is plenty.  We just need a season to "be still and know that He is God."  I think we run so much that we don't have time for that.

I agree. Homeschoolers have just as many temptations to overschedule as anybody else. The socialization myth is just really a myth. Hang in there. Even if you feel like you're going crazy, as long as you seek God, he'll meet you anywhere--even in the minivan on the way to the soccer game. :)

Our 4 keep me on the go too. So true, that we draw our strength from turning to God. I love that verse that reminds me to grab a moment to "Be still", and He is faithful to renew us. Isaiah 40:31 <>< kas
