30 Hour Famine

Jason and the youth group are doing a 30 hour famine this weekend to raise money for World Vision, which is an organization that feeds needy people all over the world.  Spenser is also participating even though he is not in the youth.  (The dr said it was ok even though he is only 11, since it is a juice fast.)  I went for a little while and am headed back, but I needed to come home and get some stuff (and be alone for a few minutes LOL)  My mom is keeping the 3 girls.  I hate overnight things like lockins and such, but it is part of the life of a minister.

We had a worship service that began in silence with 300 tealights lit.  One of the guys blew out a candle every 3 seconds, which represented that a child dies every 3 seconds from hunger.  It was very powerful.  Then we learned about gleaning (it comes before the tithe in the OT!) and we sang some worship songs.  It was great.  I

I guess I better grab my pillow and contact stuff and head back.  Hope they don't smell the doughnuts on my breath.

You are so sweet thanks for the nice words. Wow what a neat idea you guys are doing, I am going to mention this to our associate pastor and see if they would like to consider doing this. I like the idea of blowing out the candle, that makes it so much more real.

ktneis, you can check out the 30 Hour Famine website at www.30hourfamine.org. Although they have two suggested weekends during the year (this was one of them), they encourage groups to "do the Famine" any time it fits their calendar.

The candle idea and many others are available on the site, where youth ministers and others have posted tips from their own groups' experiences.

DONUTS?!! No, I didn't smell them...probably a good thing, too. I might have gone bad!
