Happy mother's day!

I hope all HSB members had a wonderful Mother's Day.  Mine was very nice.  This morning, we received a phone call that the pastor is sick, and Jason would need to preach.  This was at 8:00 am.  No problem for him, I would have been a nervous wreck!  He did a great job-- I really enjoyed it.  He followed the pastor's outline, which I thought was difficult but a great idea.  He made the point that God is in the spaces between us.  Where 2 or 3 are gathered, He is in the midst.  And while the Pastor made the outline and he (Jason) gave the sermon, God was the one delivering the message.  The text was Proverbs 31 (not my favorite) but i loved the point Jason made: that when God looks at us as mothers, regardless of how many dishes are in the sink or what's on the floor, or whatever failures we may have, when God looks at us through His redemptive eyes, He sees the Proverbs 31 mother.  Wow.

The nursery workers revolted today.  We all wanted to be in the service with our families for Mother's Day so we took the kids to church with us.  I am sure we will catch some flack about it, but it was worth it.  The same 2 or 3 of us are in there every Sunday, and anyone who didn't like it can have next Sunday :)

Jason and I actually went on a date last night
(not a common occurrence with 4 kids).  My mom babysat, and we had a gift certificate for a nice restaurant.  We also had a movie pass, so it was a free date!  The food was really good (New Orleans cuisine, although I had steak) and then we saw United 93.  So sad, but very worthwhile.  Never forget 9-11.

May. 15, 2006 - Proverbs 31

Posted by 5atkins

We just finished a lengthy study of Proverbs 31 in my ladies class. We noticed how there was such a parallel between the woman meeting the physical needs and how they relate to the spiritual needs. Verse 21 says, "She is not afraid of snow for her household is clothed with scarlet." We were saying that spiritually, the snow represents the difficult trials and tribulations in our lives, but we and our children can get through them if they are clothed in scarlet (the blood of Jesus). Isn't that another beautiful thought? There are many refrences in Proverbs 31 about the mother always working for her children. Oh how pleased God is when we are diligent to teach them about Him and "not let the lamp go out by night" (praying for them, reading for our edification," and on and on! This really helped me to look past all of the physical work in the text. Okay, now though, I had better go do some of the actual physical cleaning! :)
I am glad you were able to have a date with Jason! Isn't marriage a blessing! Take care! Eva PS I will be praying that God moves on the hearts of others in your church to help minister to the Moms of young children!
