My twenty cents keeps moving!

More from BSA camp...

I talked to Spenser again tonight.  Found out the "girl" is 22, so no worries there LOL.

He had a little trouble with archery-- not because of his shoulder but because of hand strength.  But the teacher let him try a different bow (the "blue" one LOL) and he scored 57 points in 2 rounds.  He needs to score 170 in 6 rounds to get the badge so it sounds like he is doing well.  Rifle is going well- they have to "quarter" 5 rounds to qualify, which means shoot 5 shots in an area the size of a quarter.  So far he has qualified one round so that is good.  If he gets them in the size of a dime he gets something-- all I could get was it looks like a round tree.  Not sure if its a pin or a badge or a patch or something else.

In fishing they haven't fished yet but they are learning stuff.  Today they learned 5 fishing knots.  He seemed excited.  And glad that he borrowed a bike from a kid at church, because the classes are far away and riding bikes helps them a lot getting from place to place on time.

They didn't go canoeing yet in his canoeing class, but he did get to go out during open boating time.  He has to go with a staff member because he wasn't able to pass the swimming test with his shoulder.  He sounded like it was fun though.

One of the boys found a baby mouse in his tent.  (Apparently this is a good thing LOL)  Spenser took pictures, but the mouse didn't make it-- it was a newborn.  He also saw an armadillo  and a turtle. (didn't get pics)  Now he has his camera in his pocket in case he sees something LOL.

All sounds well and I will see him tomorrow night (with snacks and recorder and music in hand)

Oh and  Reed got to talk to him tonight so that was good.  She also got a bike from Freecycle that we are going to fix up for her birthday, so she was excited about that (even though its pink LOL)  She's hoping we can paint it.

Jul. 12, 2006 - What fun!

Leslie, It sounds like Spenser is having a wonderful time! That is so neat. I would love for our girls to find something similar but we haven't come across anything yet. I feel for Reed! I used to hate it when my twin brother went to events like that and I couldn't. Not that I would have wanted to do all those things, but I really missed him and wanted to do some of them! LOL Glad you can give him a hug tonight (if no one is looking, right?) Blessings, Eva
