The big kids make it so hard!

It is hard to discipline the younger kids when the older kids are rolling on the floor laughing at what they did or at what you say.  First Macy was told not to stand in the chair and she promptly stood in the chair and sang La la la at her dad.  As he spanked her the big kids were dying laughing (not at the spanking but at the lalala, which was pretty funny.) Then later tonight at the table, Sydney was in full-hurricane mode and I was trying to calm her down.  After she put string cheese in her sister's hair and then threw the cheese on the table, I told her she needed to act right.  "Get your cheese and sit down" sent the peanut gallery into stitches.  So I told them that from now on that is our code word for behave.  When we are in public and they don't want to be embarassed by me reprimanding them I will just say "get your cheese" and that means behave.  They thought that was hysterical.

I ALWAYS have a hard time not laughing at the kids when they do stuff like that. And I love, "get the cheese"!

Aug. 8, 2006 - The big ones get it too

If I have too much enjoyment out of discipline here I let the bigger ones or the ones laughing recieve a punishment too. That worked and no one publically laughs or teases. We bite our lips and laugh when the one making the error is out of the room and doesn't realize we thought it was funny. It is hard to be tough and to teach respect and obiedience when they are cute or their siblings think they are funny, but we TRY to make everyone accountable. Doesn't always work but the key word is Try for us. I am smiling as I write this. I think it is very interesting how your hubby does laundry. I cannot stand to touch the clothes after they have been washed so to turn them the right way before drying would send me over the edge. He is very good to think that way as there is less pilling that occurs on the t-shirts. I love that our hubbys try to help us out. It makes our marraige as a partnership instead of you have this role and I have mine. Hope you have another great homeschool day.
