Our pastor is doing a 6 week series on "We are the body" leading up to our revival, so tonight I taught the same theme to the kids. It was fun, so I am sharing it here in case someone else can use it. The Body of Christ Supplies needed:
We started with a question game. Thought-provoking questions, like,
Bible Study This led us into a discussion about needing all of our parts. Then we read Romans 12:4-5 and talked about the image of the church as the body. Then I reminded them that even though they are children, they have something to contribute (we need all body parts, even our pinkies and little toes.) I read 1 Timothy 4:12 and reminded them that Paul said the young could be an example to all believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. (We talked about each of these and how they ould be an example in speech, life, etc) Art Activity I gave each child a square piece of poster board (you could use any paper you have handy) and markers. I assigned a body part to each one. (We had 7 kids so it worked ok. For more, you could make more than one person or you could work in pairs or teams) Spenser drew the head, Monica drew the body, Taylor drew an arm, etc. The youngest girl is only 6 so she drew a heart which we later added to the torso. When we put them altogether we made what turned out to be a pretty good person. Sorry for the phone picture-- I didn't have my good camera with me.Puzzle As they finished their pictures, I gave them a puzzle to put together. (I made it harder fo the older ones by mixing up 3 copies and making them work on all 3.) I printed this picture on card stock and printed this puzzle template on the back. (Then cut it out for them to put together) We glued it to construction paper when we finished. Closing I gave them each a handful of M & M's and we talked about how M&M's are like Christians. They are different on the outside, but all the same inside. Then we played Twister and twisted our body parts in all kinds of fun ways. |
