Check out In Other Words

God has delivered us, He has parted waters for us, He has made water gush forth from rocks and sent us our own manna from heaven. He has brought us into our own Promised Land. Will I miss the opportunity to tell the story to our children?
~ Ann Voskamp ~
Holy Experience

I am not sure my children yet understand the many, many times that God has parted the waters for us and made water gush forth from rocks.  And oh, the manna.  It is new every morning.

I have not meant to neglect telling them, if indeed I have.  Maybe I think that because they lived through it, they will recognize it.  But the children of Israel lived through it and yet they forgot.  And they murmured.

So I must tell it to them and remind them of the way God has delivered us from the wilderness.  He has provided for us time and time again.  As a ministry family, we have seen His hand in so many different ways:  the computer we prayed for, and a week later someone in our church  gave us the money to buy it;  the month we left our first church with no job in sight (and 2 babies in tow) and yet had more money than any month prior; the fact that we always have food on the table and clothes on our back, even when the money is not there;  the bread box and water meter; even the fact that we are here in Georgia close to our families, when I never thought we would be.  And so many many other things that I could name.  Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Oh God let me not be like the Israelites, who forgot Your countless blessings and complained about the trials of the wilderness.

Oh God let me not be like Miriam, who turned against Your leader and allowed bitterness to engulf her heart.

Oh God let me not be like the Egyptians who ignored You in their midst and worshipped other gods.

But God please give me a humble heart like Moses that I may follow you and lead my children into Your Promised Land.

Thank you for this! I am often an Israelite murmuring because I have forgotten God's goodness. What a great thought for this week's quote.

I had about forgotten some of those stories. Maybe you can remind ME, and I can help us to remember to tell THEM! :)

Love you,
Jason

p.s. I think I left the new journal by the bed. I'll try to remember to get it at lunch.

I am always sharing stories of God with my son in ways that make him forget that he's LEARNING and focus on amazement and awe. It is so important for us to point out every little thing and lead them to the best of our abilities. I wish my parents had done this for me, but I am determined to do it for my son. What a great post!

I see more of them in me than I'd like to admit. Grumbling, complaining, ugh! We do have to remind our children always, and in their profound way they remind us too!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this weeks theme of "In Other Words". Living the faith we believe in will help our children to get to know Him. We can not make our children believe, but we can give them the 'tools'. He will do the rest.
