VBS Jungle Jaunt

Posted in Church God Faith

Here are my thoughts on VBS 2007:  Jungle Jaunt.

  • I will never  try to direct and teach a class at the same time again.  I do neither well when I have to do both.  I had a teacher quit last week and had to fill in, but next year I would cancel VBS before i would do it myself.
  • 1st - 3rd graders are evil.  Hence, number one.  OK, not really evil, but I have had a couple of very challenging kids in my class.  Defiance does not go over well with me.
  • I don't care what others say, Jeff Slaughter is a genius.  A genius I say!!!
  • The Club VBS material is not nearly as good as the regular VBS material.  I try to be loyal to Lifeway, but the costs are simply ridiculous for a small church.
  • Every year, the week before VBS,  I say I will never direct VBS again.  Every year by the end of the week, I change my mind.
  • It's the end of the week-- the jury is still out.  I love VBS.  But I am just not sure it makes sense for our church.
  • This year we are going to use the material to do one, maybe two, Backyard Bible clubs in local apartment communities where we have church members.  If the mountain doesn't come to Mohammed...

Here are some pictures from the week.  We used the decorations from the Jungle Book play we did this Spring.  Forget Jeff Slaughter, I am a genius!

You make me laugh. People are still asking me if I've recovered from VBS yet. :)

BTW, we gave up ordering curriculum a few years ago and my husband has been creating and writing what we need. If you are ever in need of freebies, I'm sure we could pass what we've got onto you.

I taught backyard Bible clubs for 4 or 5 years as a teen. It was very intimate and yet fun. I loved, loved, loved it. I had moms tell me how much fun it was as well. They got to know the kids in the community and it was a great neighborhood outreach.

I vote BYB clubs. (although VBS is still fun. Just different)
