Oct. 1, 2008 - Homeschool Memoirs: Snack Foods

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w108/hsbawards/Homeschool%20Memoirs/hm7.png

Today is all about snack foods.  DH and I have talked about it and we are agreed we are going to start purchasing more fruit and veggies instead of cheese curls for snacks.  The children really like fruits and veggies so this won't be terrible but they also like their cheese curls and occassional little debbie snacks.  I am also trying to eat healthier snacks as I strive to loose weight.  My favorite things to snack on are a few vanilla wafers, cottage cheese with a little salt and pepper, cheese, yogurt.  My children enjoy the same but they also like celery, carrots, bananas, apples.  Of course there are seasonal favorites like pumpin pie, apple pie (the only time I will eat apples LOL), and of course a homemade loaf of bread with a little butter and pesto on it :)  Oh the smells of fall!

Oh, yeah! It is SO hard to cut back on snacks. It's taken me years and years to get into better habits. But it really does pay off. I've found if I don't buy it I don't eat it. (Go figure!). That's the only way. I need those external controls. LOL

Oct. 1, 2008 - Pesto

oooo...homemade bread with butter and pesto sound delicious! Do you make your own pesto? Will it keep in the fridge?

I need to eat better snacks, but I'm lazy (or busy). Fresh fruit is good, cause we can just grab it and go. But snacks that require lots of prep just don't happen regularly.

Those sound like some yummy snacks! My ds loves cottage cheese and yogurt but unfortunately dd does not. Ugh! She does like regular cheese though. :D
Have a great weekend!
